formatting window 7 without installation CD

Hi,

I am havingproblem with window7, help and support window is keep poping up and i have tried all sort of antivirus but no solution. I have tried to reinstall the window through recovery disk but still facing the same problem.

I have decided to format the hard drive and reinstall it the OS from recovery disk.

My laptop didn't come with window 7 cd so i only have recovery disk.

Would i able to format the window 7 and reinstall it through recvery disk?

Welcome to the Forums!

Which recovery disk are you talking about? There are two possibilities:

1. The Windows System Repair disk created by Windows 7 itself. This disk maybe used to repair Windows problem, but it does not contain the complete OS and cannot be used for re-installation of Windows.

2. The Recovery disk made from the manufacturers Recovery partition (if your laptop had this option). This disk may indeed be used to re-install the OS. More precisely, it will restore your laptop to its original form as it left the factory, including all bloatware and limited time offers and what not. But the OS will be re-installed.

I myself made the recovery cd from window 7.

When i restart my system i do get a option of recovery disk and its for a reinstalling the OS system.

I am using E-System laptop and it came with pre-installed OS. I do have a window 7 cd from my other computer, can i use that cd to install the OS on my machine and use the lcense key which is on my laptop?

You made a Recovery DVD, which is booted to recover your computer to factory condition? It is a little confusing since you refer to it as a CD but a CD could not possibly hold the entire image unless there are several.

I understand you have a problem with a "Help and Support" window popping up. Can you please use the Snipping Tool in Start Menu to make a rectangular snip of this window, save the file and attach it using paper clip in reply box?

Does this pop up only at startup? If so, please also provide a screenshot of your msconfig>Startup list: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1401-startup-programs-change.html

You can also run the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1538-sfc-scannow-command-system-file-checker.html to repair any corrupt system files which might be causing this.

Also, do you have access to any Win7 installation DVD so that if necessary a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R can be run? If you can borrow one for any version, we can help you unlock all versions to burn a copy.

Running the Recovery Disk should be a last resort as this can likely be fixed using an easier method. You would also have to set your computer back up again since it would be returned to the same condition as when you brought it home from store. Many prefer to clean reinstall using a Win7 installation DVD with the Product key on the COA sticker so that the factory bloatware and utilities can be left out since they can slow down Win7.

You had a lot of System Files repaired there. Did it stop the unwanted pop up?

There were several other steps and questions to answer in my post above, depending upon whether you wish to fix this, recover to factory condition to start over with all of the factory bloatware, or clean reinstall using a Win7 installation DVD with your Product Key on COA sticker.

On command prompt i got the message that some files can't be repaired. The file CWind directory is 1295KB and i can't open it as its giving me Access deny message. To read the file i run the following command to read it from desktop:

findstr /c:"[SR]" %windir%\Logs\CBS\CBS.log >%userprofile%\Desktop\sfcdetails

I am still getting the same problem.

I have already tried "Boot from recovery disk" option and it did bring the OS back to factory settings but it didn't resolve the issue.

Yes i do want to fix the file but i don't know how can i do that. Other option is to format and reinstall the OS, i do have Window7 dvd which is for my other desktop pc.

What should i do?

If you can find an exact Windows version that the PC shipped with you can do a clean install using the activation key on the COA sticker attached to the PC though it may require a robo-call to MS to sort the OEM batch-key.

If you can't find an exact same version, you could use the info in this tutorial to create an "all Versions" installer of any version Windows installer, to install using the same method I posted above and be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

Though if there's nothing on the PC you need to save, I'd do a complete wipe (secure erase) of the entire Hard Disk Drive first.

When exactly does this pop up? What are you doing at the time that may trigger it?

It appears to be a popup with IE9 beta. Did you specially install this? What about if you reinstall IE8 as this might be a bug.

Do you have the programs to reinstall if you clean reinstall?

It pop us every few seconds and its randomly associate to certain key of keybaord. For example first time it will pop up when i press A and when i close the window then it will pop up again if press A and if i close the pop window through Task Manager then it will pop up again and will asscoiate to different key on keyboard.

I need to double check if it is really something to do with keyboard and i would also test it without connecting to Internet and see if it still pops up.

I am using IE-7.

The clean install was done through "Boot up from recovery disk(something like that)" option on my pc which comes on when i restart my pc and i get option of F1 and F12.

You should have IE8 by now from Windows Update. Are your Windows Updates current? This is important as the Security Updates fortify your firewall, and optional Updates contain your latest drivers. I would choose them all as any not needed ultimately will be rejected.

If you don't receive IE8 from Updates, then google for it's standalone installer and install it now to see if the popup goes away.
