Frame stuttering on GTX460

Long story short my 8800GTS paralyzed (though not quite dead) on me. So I ordered a Asus ENGTX460. That ran fine for an hour or so, but then that paralyzed on me. So I RMA'd it, and got another ENGTX460. I've had it for a couple weeks and it still survives, but it seems to have some frame rate issues.

When playing games, whenever I look at a new area, there's a big frame rate drop, or it will even pause for a bit, and then it will go back to normal. This problem didn't seem to happen on my last GTX460 (in the brief time it had) or even on my 8800GTS. I'm running the latest drivers and all that.

Interesting. Does it happen on all games or just that one? Have you tried updating DirectX? Also, have you tried older drivers? Sometimes bugs can be introduced in newer drivers. I had a similar issue with an ATI Driver a few months ago and had to go back to the previous version. Also, have you tried fiddling around in the Nvidia Control Panel?

I tried the drivers that come on the CD, the ones from the Asus site, and the ones from the Nvidia site

Maybe, Download and Install the driver again (Because it may be because of a corrupted driver) or there may be a hardware issue regarding to the GPU throttling similar to GTX260M card.

Or uninstall the nVidia Tools from the nVidia Driver (if any).

Just a suggestion.
Read and follow the below link. This is Capt. Jack Sparrow's (on sevenforums) web site.
It will get rid of all the driver registry left overs before installing the new one.
I would suggest going with the ASUS driver.

I know exactly what you mean.

I'm too suffering from this with my GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 460 1GB OC Edition.

Most noticeably under Battlefield: Bad Company 2 (not as bad as your Starcraft 2 video though :shock.

I've tried pretty much every single possible solution out there:

• Every driver set since 258.56 (Beta, Dev, WHQL [on 260.89 WHQL as of right now]).
• Every possible NVIDIA Control Panel setting + Game(s) Settings configuration
• Messing round with some BIOS settings (Disabling HPET, C1E, etc)
• Installing CPU Control (some said that BFBC2 had CPU usage issues under Windows 7)
• Fresh Windows install

You name it, I've done it.

Seriously dissappointed with NVIDIA to be quite honest, I mean, I've never messed around with so many things just to get a card working right, I now know how much of a solid card my old Radeon HD 5770 was, AMD's drivers are not as bad as people make it out to be.

i think it might be your psu man that 460 eats a lot of power and under full load you might be maxing out thet 550w psu

He is also running it on an analog CRT monitor.

Yeah, replacing my monitor is next on the list. It's about 9 years old!

But anyway, I sweeped my drivers and restarted twice, then installed the drivers from the Asus site, which seems to have helped the stuttering issue, not sure what I was doing wrong before. I wonder if my PSU might still be bottlenecking my overall framerate though.

The best thing you can do is try turning all the graphics in game settings down. Possibly as low as they will go. Tweak them down until the stutter is gone if possible.

You have an analog monitor trying to use a digital signal.
I watched the You Tube video and it works quite well considering.

I am using a DVI to VGA adapter

The adapter makes the wiring right so a video signal gets to the monitor. It doesn't allow for using high settings on all the games. The monitor itself is a limitation on what the video card can do.
I can set some games on 16x and 32x and my set up starts to stutter.
Every card and monitor has a limit.
Your monitor may be being pushed by the card because of in game settings beyond its limits.

Try turning the in game settings down and the glitches may disappear.

Worth a shot and if it doesn't get rid of the glitches we know there is another problem.

my friend who also had the gtx460, had the same probelm. Turned out it was the PSU. Games like dirt 2, it just use to dip to 20fps randomly.
