Free BitDefender mess

This is complicated:

I had to do a System Restore, and it failed because BitDefender was running.
I couldn't disable BD, so I uninstalled it, using UninstallToolFree (UT).
Some folders remained, which refused to be deleted. UT told me that a clean uninstall requires the paid UT. I skipped it

I did my successful SysRestore, and as I hadn't saved the BD install program, I D/L a new one from here:
Bitdefender Antivirus Free - Download Free Antivirus Software. It's PC-Home.
The install file appeared to be running, but then it would stop. I tried this with 4 fresh D/L files
There's no BD in my Task Mger, even after a reboot.

Program Files shows folders and files, but the folders are dated Feb 10, the date of my original install, and the files are all dated today. screenshot 2020 03 14 at 17 04 11 — Postimage.org

UninstallTool shows 2 installations of each folder, but won't remove the old ones. I presume it's reading the registry. I only touch the registry with precise instructions.

Does the Official Uninstaller from BD work on the free version? Uninstall Consumer Trial

I'm on my other computer now.

Didn't know there was a BD uninstall, so I used it. The problem snowballed
The computer got stuck at "Windows is loading."
I did a Startup Repair which failed
I let it do a system restore to 3/3, which failed.
I restored to a later point, 3/11
I'm now back with the same problem that I had before with my monitor, the one that prompted my first sys

and my internet isn't connecting. It's telling me there's a cable unplugged, which isn't true. When I ask it to explore other options, it says the network card isn't plugged in.Not so.
It's a wired network.

My last image was 1/13/2020, so I'd rather try everything else before using it.

That all sounds driver related. What does device manger show, anything expanded with triangles? This is the monitor driver if it cant find it it self. https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp47001-47500/sp47471.exe

No yellow triangles.
It says the file is already on my computer, and when I told it to overwrite, access was denied. Yes, I ran it as admin.

I'm more concerned about losing the internet. I use that machine for work. No yellow triangle in Device Mger.

Your saying you could not download the file over one already on your pc, like from a flash drive since you have no internet at the moment?

I physically transferred the file on a flash drive from this computer to the sick one.
The monitor was working fine when I finished the "Monitor Wrong Resolution" thread. I'm not too concerned because I have 4 monitors. I have to get the internet fixed, and it's been so long since that has happened to me that I don't remember how to fix it.

Have you checked the ip settings of the network adapter, also your saying it shows as no plug in it though? This is the HP machine in your sig? If so then use this driver for your lan if it's not the wifi one.

EDIT: You have an intel cpu so that sig spec has many diff skus for that pc so first driver was for a amd board my bad you want this one I guess. Driver - HP Pavilion p6-2100 Desktop PC series | HP(R) Customer Support It's a little hard to figure it out as that number you give is a amd setup and the same with a 10 on the end is the intel one so maybe you should check which one you have exactly.

Not your fault, but I'm really pissed about the BD Uninstaller screwing my system up. And there are still 2 copies of BD in the computer, although it's not running.

I have all my drivers backed up on a CD, from a program called WinDriver backup. Should I just put it in and click the network driver, or do I have to put it somewhere?

Iv never used that program so not sure but at this point it's probably worth trying. Let's start with getting the network back. Also, can you get into safe mode and run bds normal uninstall in there at all even if it only removes some things. We can tackle the rest later.

I've been busy.
I shut down the computer, unplugged router, replugged and network/web are fine.

I reinstalled Revo Uninstaller, which killed every last bit of BitDefender without a premium license. Tried restoring to 2 diff restore points, but got an error message that "An anti-virus may be running." Nothing is running

Switched monitors, and this one is HP LV2311. Resol was wrong again
Installed driver, rebooted, resol still wrong.
Native is 1920x1080, but Display is showing highest at 1280x 1024 True Color 32 bit.


So I have just the display problem now. Screenshot of my backup folder of all drivers. I make these with each new computer.

I don't know how to disassemble the case to check the display card. Top, left and front of the case are all one piece.But I think the graphics card is onboard. It's Standard VGA Graphics Adapter.

Go to this Intel link and run the auto detector to see which one it recommends you use that's from 2020, also could use the one below as it's the Original one but very old.

Assistant wouldn't install because "You don't have permission to create the StartMenu shortcut." I did it as Admin. I've had that with other installations and don't have time to fix it.


Got the 2012 driver in, (actually 6 years newer than mine) rebooted, still the same. I have to stop this because I have to get some work done tomorrow. I've made some adjustments to the fonts.
I'll get used to the stretched screen till I can buy a new graphics card, and disable the onboard.
What card should I buy? I'm an average user, don't game or design graphics that would require a premium card. I shop at a local MicroCenter, but Ebay might be better for an old style card.

I think you might have the actual OS screwed up but this is a good add in if you don't need much power and will power it self with just the slot. It also has good drivers. EVGA GeForce 210 Low Profile Single-Fan 1GB - Micro Center

In the future might want to run a heath check. Use DISM to fix issues SFC can't - gHacks Tech News

Many thanks for sticking with me all weekend. Can I use Dism++? I've used it only for Win updates, and the directions are literally in Chinese.

I have a 3rd computer I've been meaning to transfer my work to, but I haven't had time to install Win7 + programs. It's blank right now. Then I can clean up the OS in this one.

Not sure but the built in one in the guide is what I always use and have used to even fix a non booting system.

One last comment--I put the first troublesome monitor back on my Gateway, and it works fine at 1600x 900 with no fiddling, so the problem on the HP is definitely the video card. Many thanks for your time. And I'm all done with BitDefender.
