Hi there
If you need movie subtitles (or TV series) subtitles then this FREE site is a great place to get them from
Subtitles - download DivX subtitles from the biggest open subtitles database
there's subtitles for nearly every movie / TV show you could possibly want plus in nearly every language on the planet - including some really obscure one's.
For example I did a DVD rip of Dark shadows (I Rip my DVD's to an external HDD so I can play them when I'm travelling or away from home as I don't have a DVD device on my laptop) and added the Icelandic subtitles as a test to see if translation was OK and synchronisation was correct. -- Worked fine.
To play -- I use VLC player but it's the same for other stuff -- start the movie then in vlc player go to video-->SUBTITLES TRACK -->open file then open the .SRT file and it works fine.
(VLC player works in both W7 / W8 with the same subtitle file(s).

Note here's a little blog on how to ADD subtitles to a DVD you might be copying / burning.
