Free Panda Cloud AV

I have been becoming less and less enthralled with Avast Free AV. Panda Cloud seems attractive but I was wondering how much bandwidth does it use?

No telling I had a short tour with Panda free in win-10,
Didn't uninstall well at all,
Couldn't get windows defender back on after :/
Had to use refresh install to get the bugger back on so it wasn't a pleasant tour but I doubt it will be that way in win-7 ?

It might be an issue if you pay for each block of data that you upload/download... otherwise, you will never notice it. It does not send every file to the cloud. I had a link that explained how it worked, but I'm not were I can get to that link nor can I search for it :-(

Give it a try and watch Task Manager's graph of network traffic while a scan is in progress.

You must provide an e-mail address and pick a password to "activate/register" it. This is a pain to deal with when I'm working on another person's computer while they sleep. I'm not too fond of the new "Windows 8 style" interface tiles either.

Without getting into the discussion about how good or bad MSE...
...I'm considering moving the laptop users that I support to Panda. MSE does not seem to pickup on missed events. If the update and scan was set for 2am - but the laptop was asleep then - the event is not run the next time that the computer is awake :-(

Ever since Avast's latest version update a couple of weeks ago, I've had nothing but trouble with AvastSvc.exe taking up to 80% of my CPU cycles, and only being able to restart the Web Shield with a reboot. So once again, back to Avira.

I've never had any problems with the free Comodo Internet Security which seems very light on resources and can be trained so hardly any popups

Uh, guys? Think we can get back this derailed thread back on track and address how much bandwidth Panda Cloud uses?

You might need to message Andrew for that one he actively uses Panda,
Besides downloading updates Panda is no different than any antivirus

Actually not everything is checked against the cloud. At least with Panda’s implementation of cloud-scanning there are locally installed technologies (heuristics, cache of cloud-detection, goodware cache, etc.) that are able to detect a good deal of malware threats and known good files. All these files are not checked against the cloud. Think about it, once you install the cloud-based antivirus, how many new programs do you install on your computer every day? Not that many, right? Once installed, only new programs copied or trying to run on your computer are checked against the cloud (if they are not detected first by the local technologies). From our beta testing phase we have seen that on average Panda Cloud Antivirus only consumes a few KB of bandwidth per day, less than the typical traditional signature updates.

The article is old so I installed their latest incarnation of this free product and ran a full scan. I saw no files being sent to the cloud... but I was scanning a virtual machine - so it probably had seen those files before.
