Does anyone know of free, excellent software that can:

(1) create pdf files from any sources document; and/or

(2) merge existing pdf files, or delete pages from existing pdf files.

Many thanks for your input.

I use pdfcreator. PDFCreator | Get PDFCreator at SourceForge.net

It installs a print driver, so any app that can print can be pushed through pdf creator and turned into a pdf.

You cannot use it to change and modify existing PDF files though.

Both are interesting suggestions. Does OpenOffice install a pdf printer driver, or is it just a conversion feature that can be accessed within the program?

I'm using a different printer driver that does the same thing. Just wondering if there is such a thing as a print driver converter that preserves links when you convert html to pdf? I would tend to doubt it but it doesn't hurt to ask.

(I'm using BullZip PDF printer at the moment.)

(1) Two free options I use:

a) PDFCreator - as someone else posted, installs a "printer" that you can print to from most any Windows application.

b) MS Word 2007: MS add-in to save as PDF or XPS
Link: Download details: 2007 Microsoft Office Add-in: Microsoft Save as PDF or XPS

(2) PDFTK Builder: will split PDFs into individual pages and combine any individual or groups of pages into one document. Terrific tool!

I was using this too, but it suddenly stopped working for me. It kept saying that it couldn't work as a terminal service. No idea what happened there, so I switched to PDF Creator. That works great so far.

Bullzip is great, too, but I had some trouble getting it to work with Seven when I first upgraded from Vista. If it works better now, I might go back.

I think I used BullZip awhile back. But anyway, this time around I've been using it in 32 bit Win7 and Vista64 with no problems. Granted I've only been running it a few days. I like it because by default it puts the pdf on the desktop. I can delete when I'm done with it or drag it someplace else, but I'm less likely to forget about it.

It's just too bad it doesn't have link support because I could use it as a substitute for Firefox DeskCuts AddOn.
