Hi,
I've a new FreeAgent Go 500gb drive and as I started backing up to it I moved it significantly enough to cause it to beep once.
I know it's not the beep*ing* it can do in certain situations but a beep when it's knocked/moved does that signify anything?

I've scandisk'd it with no errors so just wondering if the movement-induced beep means anything?

Also, it's external with a metal top and as it's getting cold here and with the heating on/off is condensation a problem with external drives?

Did you check your manual concerning the beeps? And did it beep due to rough handling of the drive, or because maybe a cable wiggled loose during movement?

I would "guess" that since scandisk found no errors you are fine, but you might want to run Seagate's SeaTools on it to be sure.

Unless you have wide and rapid temperature swings (like coming into a warm house from the cold outdoors) condensation should not be a problem. In a heated home or office, the temperatures do not drop (or rise) fast enough, nor is there wide enough swing between the low and high for condensation to be a problem.

Thanks for the reply.
It moved beeped from handling as it was knocked sideways and the cable free enough to move with it. Think it's fine - no manual and their website has nothing on it.

It is a heated house, mornings and evenings, but stone cold in between - costly to heat here in the uk! Good point on the temp diff speed

I hear you. I used to live in East Anglia and the house used a coal heated back-burner in the fireplace. In that situation, there would be a large swing in temperatures, but it certainly was not rapid.
