Freeware programs that increase performance?

I didn't read every post, someone may have mentioned you can boost performance by turning of windows areo and other visual features. Also why do you need more power? Just want your pc to run faster?

You actually have it backwards. Turning Aero on is recommend. With Aero on that frees up the CPU for more important tasks. However, the OP has Windows 7 Starter which does not have Aero. Otherwise it would help the OP to turn it on.

I fin that hard to believe. surely Aero is using more power to process the transparencys and animation effects? where did you read this?

In Windows 7 Aero is handled by the GPU. Windows basic is handled by the CPU. Therefore Aero = more processor time available. because the GPU is dealing with it.

Dont believe me? Look on the back of any graphics card box. "Optimised to run Windows 7 Aero" (Yeah I know they would say that anyway... but in this case its actually true )

Vista on the other hand, it was handled by the CPU, thats probably where your getting confused.

Wouldn't Aero have to be processed through the GPU AND the CPU to generate the glass effect?

P.S. I upgraded to Ultimate!
