Freezing. No BSOD and no clues in event log.

Hi all. I just did a fresh install of Windows 7 Professional on my home built machine. This machine has been running perfectly for months since I managed to eradicate the atikmdag error that was plaguing it. However I recently started to get usb and i/o issues, so I decided to do a fresh install of Windows and start from scratch to diagnose the issues. I also fitted a new power supply at the same time.

2 days ago the machine started locking up again. Just freezing, leaving me with no alternative but to switch it off at the wall. It is now freezing up every 10 minutes or so.

When I installed Windows last week I made sure I had the newest graphics card drivers as I didnt want the atikmdag error to come back. There are no indicative errors in the event log, and I never get as far as getting a BSOD. It has even started freezing on the boot up screen now.

This is the spec

Asus M5A78L/USB3 AMD Socket AM3+ 8 Channel HD Audio ATX Motherboard
AMD Athlon II X3 450 3.2GHz Socket AM3 Processor
Corsair 4GB DDR3 1600MHz RAM
ASUS EAH5450 SL/DI/512MD3/MG(LP) low profile graphics card
X-Power 700W PSU

Could this be the usb/io error causing this? For this install I have switched usb to legacy mode in the BIOS to try and fix the usb issue.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
After searching the internet this morning I am starting to think the issue is with the two USB3 ports on this motherboard. Now I think of it the devcies that kept uninstalling etc were in the usb3 ports.
