And no, I'm not talking about the temps -- it was in the upper 80s here today in Florida!

Has anyone else had a problem with W7 just freezing for a few seconds at a time? Then it does a "hurry up and catch up" thing that drives me nuts. In other words, if I use my scroll wheel on my mouse, nothing will happen, and then all of a sudden after a few seconds, my document will scroll way down. Or if I'm typing, as just happened as I'm typing this note, I will be typing away with nothing on the screen, and all of a sudden this whole string of words will appear.

It's REALLY annoying when I'm switching applications with alt-tab.

Any advice?

Thanx,
Jamie

I THINK I filled in the info in the correct places. If not, here is the link to the specs from HP. It probably tells you more of what you need to know.

Try the most common cause of this problem, first, uninstall your Anti Virus. If that solves the problem try MSE. from Microsoft.

Not sure. Are you still running the video driver that Windows installed? If so, I would update to the latest driver from Nvidia/ATI and see if that helps.

When I installed W7, hardly any of the drivers came with it. I had do d/l them all from HP, including the video driver. I'd imagine that would be the most recent, no? How can I tell?

I use AVG; never had that problem on XP, but I know this isn't XP. What is MSE? I'm not familiar with that one.

The driver that you have is probably okay, but you have not given your system specs, so I don't know what video you have. You should fill them in, in your UserCPL.

OK, I have to claim ignorance here. Where would I find this info (the specs) on my computer, and what is a UserCPL?

Actually, I went to HP's site and think I found it. I did a custom install of W7 over Vista.

Here are the specs. Not sure what you need to know out of it, so I'm just giving you all of it. LOL

You will find UserCPL at the top of the forum menu. Select it and then select "Edit System Spec" near the top of the left side menu. Most of the specs are in the webpage that you linked, but it still would be good to fill in the specs for future posting. Here is a link to ATI (AMD);

Just compare what you find there to the driver shown when you select the driver tab of the component's properties in the Device Manager.

LOL Story of my life. I went to that site to check on the driver. Mine is a Radeon HD 3200 -- and the options are 3000 and 3400. NOW what do I do?

There seem to be a lot of persistent errors, but I have no idea what they mean, unfortunately. Some of them are clear -- problems with the Internet connection, as Comcast tends to suck -- but the others... I have no idea.

Jamieresearch - you need to research these errors using Google. :geek: This is how you get control of them.

Start with the ones which appear to relate.

Also at Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Performance Information and Tools\Advanced Tools study the Performance logs and Generate a System Health Report.

You can also check the integrity of System files by typing CMD in start search box and running sfc /scannow

If this gets you nowhere, then run a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R

If the repair install doesn't correct it and you cannot find the cause, clean resinstall and add Programs and settings back one at a time with a System restore point until you determine which caused it.
