Hi all
never though I'd be screaming in thde Street praising a French firm -- but this one seems to have shown sense.

Against the general trend where anybody under about 30 seems even to need a Mobile phone to point them to a local Bar this firm has finally said ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

Never thought I would be saying The French have got something right --at last.

BBC News - Email obsession 'will impact Christmas holidays'

Cheers

lol : otherwise would have been surprising :D

I know a person whom works in Free (a major french ISP most known as Iliad out of France) and wastes its sundays and holidays time to read hundred and hundred work emails, even when I invite him to diner at home. Maybe Free will build on the decision of Atos ...

Banning email and using instant messaging instead won't change much of anything, people will treat instant messaging as email then and those that feel they need to constantly check their email will then switch to constantly monitoring their IM client.

Built my first computer (8Mhz 8088cpu, 640K RAM, 20MB HDD, 2 360K floppy drives) in 1985 and have been building them for myself, relatives and friends ever since.
I don't see any inherent problem with email. If an employee spends too much time reading them, then it would seem that the emails just need better filtering, so that the time spent is relevant to business, or personal family needs. It would seem that it would be easier to filter email, than it would be to filter IMs. As far as the amount of time that a person spends on work emails at home, it would seem to me that the employer shouldn't have control of how an employee spends their off-time.
