I'm cleaning up my brother's computer and noticed that he's having BSOD errors. I ran memtest86 overnight with 0 errors, so doesn't appear to be a RAM issue. Ran sfc /scannow and found a few errors that could not be fixed. Ran sfc /scannow 3 more times with same results. Would appreciate any advice.
Thanks!

Hi There,

Here's a couple drivers being flagged,

Code:
Unable to load image \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\igdkmd64.sys, Win32 error 0n2
*** WARNING: Unable to verify timestamp for igdkmd64.sys

Try updating that.

Here's another,

Lenovo boot optimizer driver,

Try updating that or uninstalling it.

I would consider these tests as well,

Please perform the following tests,

chkdsk /r

SeaTools for DOS and Windows

As for the files that SFC couldn't fix if you post the CBS log I'll see if I can get someone here to look at it, but you may need to do a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html

Thanks for the help.
I updated the graphics driver and have had not more bsods, but am not sure how to update or uninstall the boot optimizer driver. Where can I find it? I did not see it in the Device Mgr.
I ran chkdsk /r and it found no issues.
I am running SeaTools.
Here is the cbs log from the scannow. I had to save it in notepad from an elevated cmd prompt. It wouldn't let me attach it otherwise. Hoping it won't involve a repair install.
Thanks again.
Becky

You're welcome,

Can you run this tool again and let it finish collecting all the data, it will help by providing more specific info about that computer,

Additional information is required.

1. Download this file to your desktop or other convenient location,

Download

2. Double click on the file to run it.

3. Locate the .ZIP file created on your desktop, and upload it here in your next reply.

picture.php

Thanks for the log and for the time being let's wait on the optimizer uninstall or update, I need to have more info about that computer,

I would ask for you to fill in the specs in your profile but since this is your Brother's computer, if you could just give more detailed specs, Make, full model #, Laptop or Desktop.

Good that chkdsk came back without issues, that was just precautionary due to one of the bugchecks.

Thanks again.
It's a Lenovo laptop, G570. 4GB RAM, about 500MB HDD.

I tried pasting that script in the elevated cmd prompt, but it wouldn't attach the sfcdetails file. I looked at the file, and it was 0 kb, and contained zero characters in notepad. I tried running the script again a few more times, and nothing was saved on my desktop.

Here are the results for the tool I downloaded.

The first 2 scans with SeaTools passed. Still have another hour on the long generic.

I really do appreciate the help. Hopefully it was just an issue with the Graphics driver...

OK, thanks for trying. I've asked for someone to look at the CBS log for you, Thank you for following instructions. :)

Let's hope it's just your graphics driver, I'll have a look to see if the other one has an update right now.

OK, one more thing here, I'm not sure why it is not getting included in the upload but can you go to,

:orb: > type msinfo32 > click on that, when it opens > go to file > save as > name it msinfo and make sure it is an "nfo" file.

Then upload that in your next reply.

In this case the SFC scan is only showing us part of the story - we need to see a CheckSUR log as well.

Please download and save the CheckSUR tool from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821
(you'll need to look in the details for Windows 7, downloading from the Microsoft Download Center)

Run it - The tool can take anywhere from 5 mins to a couple of hours to run (or 'Install') depending on how much it has to do, and may exit silently - it may appear to freeze for most of that time, but be patient.
The result is logged in the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log file - and an archive …\checksur.persist.log file

Then zip the CheckSUR.log and upload it to your reply.

That's fixed the missing manifest that I spotted in your CBS.log:)

Now please run another SFC /SCANNOW and post the new CBS.log - it may show new errors, or it may say 'nothing found', but either way please post the log, as the background data may show us more.

the CBS log looks fine - Do a Check for Updates and install ONLY the oldest one found. Then reboot and if successful, try any more updates.
If it fails, post details, and the C:\Windows\windowsupdate.log file

I did have one more bsod 0x24 before installing the updates, but I was able to install all of them in the order that you suggested.

My brother's family needed to use the computer for school, so I returned it them. Hopefully, the bsod errors will either be fixed or at least be infrequent enough to not be a big problem.

I truly appreciate the time and energy that you put into helping me work through this. I'm so impressed with your knowledge and generosity of time. You both provide a great resource to people without the background to work through these issues on their own.

Many thanks,
Becky

You're welcome. :)

Another 0x24, These are the usual causes of that,

Usual causes: Disk corruption, insufficient physical memory, Device driver, Indexing, Resident antivirus, backup, defrag programs, Disk/Drive failing/failure

Just for reference, since you gave it back already. If you end up back with the computer you can pick up where you left off here if it isn't too long.
