Hi Everyone,

i have built a new computer in the past 6 months and get frequent random BSoDs and it drives me nuts!! these are random and can happen under idle or while listeningto music, theres no one thing that triggers it, the errors are varied from MEMORY_MANAGMENT, BAD_POOL_HEADER, SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EWUAL, PAGE_FAULT_IN_NON_AGED_ARE etc etc. and usually has NTOSKRNL as the driver causing it. I have tried a few things so far witch include

Swapping out GFX card, PSU, motherboard, Removed all other PCI cards, Reinstalled windows (a few times) Run 1 stick of ram untill it failed and the the other stick witch also failed, run memtest for about 30 passes with no errors, ran hard drive diagnostics and passed all tests, manually set ram timings (8-8-8-24) and voltage (1.5v)

Hardware

MB - ASUS M4A79T Deluxe (has been replaced once)
CPU - AMD Phenom ii 965 BE (125w revision)
RAM - GSKILL ripjaws 4GB dual channel kit PC10666 DDR3
GFX- ATI Radeon 5850 ( also tried anvidia card)
HDDs - 2x samsung spinpoint 1TB F3s (tried installing OS on both)
OS- Microsoft Windows 7 Professional x64
PSU- Antec TruePower TP-650 650W ATX Power Supply Unit

Next step - I am going to try an IDE hard drive on a fresh install of windows (again sigh) and manually set the Vcore voltage

This has been about 6 months worth of troubleshooting and trying various things to no avail, have spent a fair amount on this system and i just want to get the dam thing working propperly, and now i am STUMPED!

Anyone got any ideas? can supply dump files but none of the point to any one particular thing, i have attached a sshot from bluescreen view but as you can see theres no very very recent ones there, will make more recent one if requested

Thanks

According to everything I read over at Newegg reviews your board requires a bios update in order to be compatible with the latest AMD cpu's like the 965. So if you havn't updated the bios yet you need to. :)

Have tried 3 bios versions, one was incompatible with my CPU running it at only 800mhz no matter what i manually set in the bios and the other 2 still gave me blue screens. have tried a differnet vid card to no avail, the error codes are seldom the same twice

My first post went into detail of what i have tried so far, i have been playing with cpu and ram settings in the bios and still get the same thing happen, random BSoDs at random times, i have been at it for about 6 months and im growing tired of failure. Thinking of giving it to a computer shop but they will probably take forever trying to find the problem at a rediculously high chargeout rate

From what I read you need the bios 2304 for the AMD 965 125 watt version as opposed to the 140 watt version which requires a different bios.
Try using the T2 command rate for memory , as in 8 8 8 24 T2.

With your board, you can actually remove the cmos battery to bring up the bios flash utility and flash the bios from a USB drive.

Nearly every reported problem with this board had to do with getting the right bios for the CPU being used so I would attempt your repairs along that route if I was you.

Here is what people say about this board and CPU combo if you aren't using the correct bios.
Cons: DO NOT BUY THIS BOARD IF YOU ARE USING THE NEWEST 125 W AMD Phenom X4 BE. Here I am typing this review on a borrowed laptop because Asus was too lazy to recall dated boards. The board did not ship with the latest bios, and is incompatible out of the box with the previously mentioned chip.

Good luck with this, I have found after building many different boards that they seem to all have their own special requirements to get them working. It can be a real PITA to figure out which board requires which tweak in order to get it working so I feel your pain and have been there before.

I looked at your five most recent dumps. They are all Driver Verifier Enabled dumps and pointing to Windows system drivers or hardware. Turn Driver Verifier off: Driver Verifier - Enable and Disable. That should reduce your number of crashes. If you get another BSOD, please upload it to us.

You have a couple of outdated drivers that should be updated.

How to update drivers:
- I have listed links to most of the drivers in the code box below. Please use the links there to see what info I've found about those drivers.
- search Google for the name of the driver
- compare the Google results with what's installed on your system to figure out which device/program it belongs to
- visit the web site of the manufacturer of the hardware/program to get the latest drivers (DON'T use Windows Update or the Update driver function of Device Manager).
- if there are difficulties in locating them, post back with questions and someone will try and help you locate the appropriate program.

- - The most common drivers are listed on this page: Driver Reference
- - Driver manufacturer links are on this page: Drivers and Downloads

Thanks for the help guys, realy appreciated!

Will look into the current BIOS version, I had the motherboard replaced (thinking i had narrowed it down to that being the only thing it could be) and this has the version it was shipped witch may actually be v2304, I have the 125w revision of the 965 witch sets itself to 1.4v on auto, have tweaked this up to 1.45 to no avail, how high can i push this up before risking permanant damage?

I have been tweaking settings for CPU voltage, RAM voltage and timing etc and it seems to have lessened them (but they are random so who knows if it helped)

Using CPU-Z i can see the auto setting for ram is T1, will try switching to T2

Yes driver verifier is enabled on advice but will disable it and update those drivers that need attention, although i have probably tried on a different install of windows (have formatted sevral times), i used to have a lot more problems like RAR fiels not extracting or apps not installing and failing and general weird things happening but it just seems to be the BSoDs being my only problem now

If ANYONE has ANY other ideas or things i could try i am all ears, i know someone else with a similar system so i might swap RAM and CPUs and possible a HDD with him and see what the results are

EDIT: i see there is another new bios i am yet to try(v3303) , so i have downloaded that and will try it at some stage

Keep us updated. Driver Verifier is a useful tool when it is needed. When it is only pointing to Windows system drivers and hardware, it is not useful.

Ok,

I Updated the drivers that were pointed out (still got BSoDs)
I then set the timing to T2 for RAM in the bios, have manually set ram voltage (tried 1.5v and 1.52v) , timing (8-8-8-24) cpu-z says timing is 8-8-8-24-33 i think it was 33, should i manually set this parameter?. have set CPU voltage (1.45v) , multiplier (200mhz) and clock speed (x18) Still got BSoDs

I will now install the new BIOS and reinstall windows installing only diever disks supplied with the motherboard. if this doesnt work i will have to start swapping parts with friends

Anyone else got any ideas??? i ran out a long time ago... this is truly bizzare, i have never encountered such a problem, the only thing i can think of it being now is just plain incompatibility

Incompatibility is a good possibility. I believe you definitely have a hardware problem. When a clean install does not solve the problem, that leaves hardware.

Ah, very good. Thank you for the update. That is the news we like to hear. It looks like power or a cable was the problem.

Please upload the dumps and we will take a look. It does sound like it still might be a hardware problem.

Problem still persists but not as bad witch makes me think i may be headed in the right direction... but it is entirely rendom so who knows

I can tell when the computer is unstable right from boot, it boots slow and when it gets into windows does strange things and fails to load some apps, aero stops working sometimes, i get random errors or BSoDs. but other times it boots fast and runs well, the problem seems to hapen mostly from a cold boot seems to happen not as often when overclocking the cpu multiplier.

Anyone got any ideas?, im thinking maybe a power issue not caused by the PSU as i have swapped this and the problem remains
