Hi Guys,
I am have a problem with my not so old custom build PC.
The file is attached with all the information.
I have 3 HDD
1 -500GB Seagate running Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit (installed years back)
2 -500GB WD running Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (fresh install)
3- 1TB with all the data

when I was using my 32bit OS then suddenly it started crashing when I had installed the latest drivers for my Nvidia Graphic Card GTX 460. Then I reverted back to my old drivers and everything was fine till again it started freezing and crashing without any BSOD/minidump. I checked the event viewer and found ATPI5 (sata port i think) error. I anyways wanted to installed a 64bit OS for my photoshops, etc so I emptied my WD HDD and formatted it and did a clean install of Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit dual boot with 32 bit.
I had interchanged the SATA wires within the disks but they are connected to the same port. Now while using my 64bit OS it is crashing/freezing very frequently and just gave only 4 BSODs till now for which is included in the file attached with this post. I checked event viewer and found no ATPI errors. I have installed the latest Graphic card drivers. I did got twice or thrice popup that my graphic drivers have crashed but haven't seen it for a while now. I am planning to install older version for my graphic driver (v314) as I did in my 32bit. But I am confused as to what is causing this problem. I have done Mem test for 5 passes with no errors. Also sometimes at the boot/BIOS loading screen I see my RAM sometimes at DDR600 and sometimes as DDR800. I have not done any overclocking and everything is at default.

Please guys help me in fixing this problem. If you need more information please ask. I have explained as much I could.
Please Help
You guys are great.

Hi Arc,

1.
If there is any possible BIOS update, get it.
I tried to update my BIOS but it 'haven't worked for me without a Floppy drive. I will get my friend's USB Floppy drive and then try. The new version is released in April 2008 so that's old too, don't know if that would make any difference but will still try to do.
Update-
BIOS is update with the latest available bin (oct 2008).

2.
Check if the Power Supply Unit (PSU) supplying adequate power to the computer or not.
eXtreme Power Supply Calculator
Also let us know the wattage of the PSU.
Below is the screenshot of the website with my config and power requirements.
53lm.jpg

I have a Cooler Master GX 650W PSU

3.
Is the computer hot? Report us the heat of the computer after a couple of hours of your normal usage. Upload a screenshot of the summery tab of Speccy. Alternatively, you can publish a Speccy snapshot too: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials...tem-specs.html .
Here is the link to Speccy's screenshot of my temperature after a while of normal usage. I will check during stress test and see if there are any big numbers.

4.
Are you overclocking? As you are getting BSODs, you should stop overclocking and run all the hardware components like CPU, GPU and RAM to their default settings.
I am not Overclocking and everything is running at stock speed.

5.
Test your RAM modules for possible errors.
How to Test and Diagnose RAM Issues with Memtest86+
Run memtest for at least 8 passes, preferably overnight.
Have done Memtest86+ tests for 5 passes with no errors. Will run it again soon for 8 passes as suggested and also will check with HCI Memtest and report back on that.

Update-
Ran HCI for some time and no errors
md4t.jpg

6.
Stress test the Graphics Card using Furmark.
Video Card - Stress Test with Furmark
Have installed and will run soon and come back with results

Update-
Ran the stress test for some time and got the below Screenshot when the temp was not increasing.
I am not sure if I saw an artifact but I did some white garbled lines for a second or so every now and then during the test on the animation the software was playing and also the FPS didn't go above 14FPS. is this normal??

fl4j.jpg

7.
Have Downloaded and will come back with results soon.

Update-
Did it for 2 hours and no error message came up. Screenshot below.

66a1.jpg

8. I saw the below error in Speedfan SMART section. Is this of any concern?

cs8s.jpg

Thanks for your reply.

Please now help me with the situation. I would like to do some test with the HDD to see if they are the culprit. What's a good HDD stress software?
Also wanted to mention that the PC did not crash while any of the tests but when everything finished and I opened sevenforums.com on firefox and started typing this reply it crashed with a BSOD. i have attached the 2 new BSODs (there were many crashes but no BSODs/minidump) i faced since posting my problem here.
Please help.

Ace Sir,
Done everything you said. Please see the results and respond. I think its the WD drive with errors causing this error as when I click the Short test button on SpeedFan program it hangs and crashes the Windows.
Please tell what do you think of this??

It would be better if you have supplied a full screen image of furmark screen. As far it is visible, it shows clear artifacts.

fl4j.jpg

And such a GPU can cause this type of BSOD.
Test the situation without the GPU; either using another one, or using the onboard graphics.

Here is what is called no artifacts in the image below:

Hi Ace,
Below is the full screen image. I downgraded my graphic driver to v314.22 and then ran the test. Its not showing that Temp. and other info as shown in your screenshot. The garbled line I was talking about is that temp and other things showing for a millisecond and then vanishes, it keeps on doing that and if I time my print screen button correctly I do capture those info in the screenshot it comes up only at the start of the test then it rarely comes when the temp goes up.

My motherboard doesn't have any onboard graphics. But I have an old Nvidia Geforce 8600GT and will try that very soon.
Thanks for your reply.

What does this means??? My graphic card is done/dead?
But I am playing Battlefield 4 and COD - Ghost just fine on Medium settings and it doesn't even crash while playing. It mostly crashes when I'm using a web browser.
Oh man these thing costs a lot and I bought this just 2 yrs back. Please need a little info on how to confirm that this graphic card is dead. I will check my 8600GT also soon.
Please mate help.

You can see the differences of the furmark test images. Decision is not really on me.

Let us know the result with the other GPU.

Disable Hardware Acceleration. Open a video in YouTube. When it is started, right click on the screen and choose "settings"

In the resulting window, uncheck the option for hardware acceleration, and then close the window.

Also, see these tutorials:

If the GPU is not really corrupt, these actions will stop a display crash while in a browser.

Hello Mate,
I tried with my old 8600GT graphic card and below is the screenshot.
4l77.jpg

Its the same as my other graphic card. I guess/hope its not the graphic card issue. I am yet to check the GPU Hardware Acceleration results as I had disabled it yesterday and haven't used my PC much. Will test it today and see if that resolves the problem and come back to you.

Also please tell me about the HDD as one of them is also showing some red signs on SpeedFan. I booted with a UBCD and ran few HDD quick tests and all came OK.

Your PSU may not be supplying the power it is supposed to. The GTX 460 should run Furmark with no artifacts. Use the burn in test it will show temps and FPS. Download and install this: HWMonitor CPUID - System & hardware benchmark, monitoring, reporting It will show the volts while w7 is running, it will create a log also. Play a game or run Furmark with HWinfo running to check volts. Post a snip of it.
For the HDD check this out.

I ran Furmark again with HWMonitor and below is the screenshot. The artifacts are there i guess, but dont know why. The games(Battlefield 4, etc) run fine without problem/crash. Mostly it crashes while using any browser.
e94z.jpg

I did got few more of those crashes again and with few dumps. I checked the even viewer and saw few events maybe the probable cause. I have attached it below please check. especially the Search and Disk errors. Search errors happens more often before a crash but Disk errors happens sometime but not always before a crash.

Please help.

If Memtest, furmark, and Prime95, all tests went good, then the remaining stuff are the PSU and Motherboard. But we cannot check those in hand, without swapping them with other known good hardware.

yes but the event viewer showed something related to Hardware. "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk3\DR5.". This is related to HDD. but how can i find which HDD this is talking about, as I had swapped the SATA wires around before this error.

Usually disc controller errors are not interpreted as stop 0x124. Specially when the controller is pciide.sys, the system native IDE/SATA controller.

Still, test all your HDDs using Seatools for DOS.

If all goes well, try to update the BIOS, if possible. I dont have sound idea about ABit stuff.

Then, go for a clean reinstall.

If it is the same even after the clean install, PSU and motherboard, one of them should be the culprit.
