Fresh install, logon error, bsod win update and shutdown issues

I replaced a mainboard for a dv9000 that had a bad gpu. I Installed windows 7 home on it, it came with vista. Upon completion it gave an error something about login not being able to show so i shut down and restarted and loaded win update, it searches forever. So i shut it down, it never shuts down just sits there forever.

I installed 7 pro this time, and it got a bsod during install, and then basically the same issues as above. I am installing from usb, and i have used the usb drive on about 9 win 7 installs, its easier that way and then i input the key after boot.

Did you go to the manufacturer's website and download the Windows 7 drivers for your motherboard, and then install them immediately after you finished installing Windows 7? Did you make sure everything in the BIOS was set correctly prior to installing 7?

i think the board has the latest bios, i usually get the drivers from windows update since this is a laptop with vista there are no direct 7 drivers

the bios settings are pretty basic, very limited not much to change the downside of prebuilts

Well, I'd try the Vista drivers. If they don't work, I'd remove everything except for the bare essentials required for the computer to operate and then try again. Make sure to disable onboard audio, etc. If that doesn't work, and you are certain the hard drive, video card, etc, is good, then that computer might just not be up-gradable to 7.

Go over all of your mobo connections to make sure they are correct.

Win7 installer is driver-complete via the Installer and optional WIndows Updates. You should only import drivers missing after optional Windows Updates that are still missing in Device Manager.

Make sure you have the latest BIOS version, if so clear the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS

Unplug all peripherals, other HD's, remove any Floppy Drive from BIOS wherever it registers then physically remove it if possible.

Then adapt the steps in Perfect Reinstall link in my signature picture below to make sure you are making all the right moves.

Interactive logon process failed, i tried a different hard drive this time
Will try the above steps and report back, thats odd if 7 doesnt work on this machine

7 is great and has worked on everything i put it on in the past

Report back results of each step and then we'll move on to test hardware.

Last resort is to install to this HD on another machine then move it back to this one after SysPrepping to prepare HD or its image to move to new hardware.

We'll have to agree to disagree on this one. For example, Windows 7 SP1 doesn't have a single driver available for the latest Fusion motherboards. Actually, now that I think about it, VIA and AMD chipsets have never really been supported out of the box by any Windows OS. Anyway, it's hard to connect to the internet when there are no drivers for hardware. IMHO, it's always best to visit the manufacturer's website and get the latest drivers and/or to follow the installation instructions provided by the motherboard manufacturers (which usually includes installing the drivers included with the hardware).

Finally got it to work, windows update worked and all driver updates are installed, the dv9000 has 2 hard drives so i installed it on the 2nd with the main hdd removed, i put the main hard drive after everything was setup and formatted it but got an error so its possible the hard drive is corrupted even though the diagnostic passed both drives

The only issue now is windows 7 wont charge the battery, its recognized, says its charging then it doesnt charge and reports not being charges and battery is at 0%

The battery light flashes as well when the unit is off and unplugged

I knew 7 worked on every machine

Are all drivers installed in Device Manager? If not import from the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or device, and check there for any battery related updates, hotfixes, apps or drivers.

What is the verbatim error text when you plug in the second HD?

It's possible the second HD is marked System and/or Active which is blocking boot if that is the error you're getting. Make sure the Win7 HD remains set first HD to boot.

Boot up free Partition Wizard bootable CD and post up a camera snap of the listings and drive map with both drives plugged in. If second HD is marked either then go ahead and rightclick to Modify>Set to Inactive.
