Fresh install question

Hi,

Is it possible to install an OS (Vista, XP, Windows 7) with VMWare or similar, and run it as a regular OS, like if you had just installed it from a DVD or USB?

Thanks,

Morty

Yes it is, I use Sun Virtual Box, a free download, and have Windows Seven running as a virtual machine. In full screen mode it is just the same as if you installed it fresh.

Thanks shezz,

That answered a question I didn't ask but was curious about.

It's not what I meant though.

If say I run Vista on hdd 1, and want to install Windows 7 on hdd 2. Is it possible to do that via a virtual machine program, and have it boot up solely as it's own system and not running in a virtual environment?

EDIT: Put differently.

Are there other ways to install a new OS from inside a running OS?

Meaning you don't/can't burn to DVD?

You can use Deamon Tools to mount the image and that will install it on a new partition. However installing a new OS from within an OS is also possible if you are putting the OS on a different drive, but it will still have to go through setup and stuff, you can't have the OS installing while you are trying to do other stuff.

If you install with VirtualBox it has a seamless mode that blends into your OS as if you are running two OSes at the same time.

Very good feature, however, it is a resource HOG!

Could you tell me how to get this seamless mode going? I've gone through the options but can't find anything?

TIA
