Fresh Install with stale issues.

I had some problems with a slow bloated filled hard drive.

I have installed a new hard drive and took my recover disk from my ASUS N61J to rebuild W7 64. I then installed a lot of my other software. My computer is now running so fast and smooth.

The only problem is a few things not running at all

WIFI: I am not getting online. But I am getting the wireless printer to work. I had had an issue last week also with the wifi but I was stuck in a hotel out of the country.

IPAD not showing up on Itunes. When I plug my I-product in (phone or pad) the computer beeps but does not show up in Itunes or in "Computer".

I have tried to update drivers, disable drivers, etc. When I try to open the WIFI trouble shooter the troubleshooter won't open for it, but it does for other drivers. Both show this error under "device manager"

"Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)"

Other issues I am having is
Unable to listen to HDMI on my TV from the laptop
Unable to move my documents to the Data drive

Both these last problems occur even though I can't find similar issues to the drivers like the first two problems and I have tried numerous methods to fix these I have found online.

Should I just start over with a clean install or a repair install?

Start over and get the much superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 . Everything you need is in the blue link including latest official installer for your licensed version and how to handle drivers in Win7 which is not at all like XP.

Using the factory Recovery includes all of the corrupting bloatware, which is why tech enthusiasts don't run it. If you insist then at the minimum I would Clean Up Factory Bloatware .

Make sure you have the wireless adapter installed in Device Manager, or find it on the Asus SUpport Downloads webpage for your model. Then run the troubleshooter by right clicking on the connection icon in bottom-right System Tray.

That worked

I did a fresh install and all the issues seemed fixed. The only thing not 100% so far is failed updates. A number of things will be successful but a few things fail during update. Once I get that figured out I will back up a copy of the "system' for future rebuilds.

Keep trying and if any refuse to install post them up in our Updates forum, open a email Support case on Windows Update website.

The fresh installation came with bugs of its own. I was able to connect my i-devices but I was not able to do a windows update. Also certain functions on the ASUS computer were not working. I used the device driver DVD and got some to work but then the computer kept freezing up. I did a revert to previous and no more freezing but I am now unable to get the Windows update to work at all, an error pops up when I try, saying something along the lines of "windows cannot install updates because the service is not running, try restarting the computer". Another concern on the ASUS drivers. Is the running of the drivers disk disabled my touch pad but when I went to ASUS for a driver update I did not recognize the name of some of the hardware for the drivers I was trying to update. I believe ASUS is now updating the wrong drivers for my computer type. I was able to get the right driver by going to Synaptic because ASUS was trying to give me the wrong updated drivers.

I am afraid I will have to start over again on a fresh install, but this will be the third time. Any suggestions on repairing this install or on how to get it right next time?

Look for newer drivers and possible hotfixes on the Asus Support Downloads webpage for your model. This is in the tutorial - did you see it? Nothing is said there about using a driver disk which is dated from the moment it is pressed.

I would start over and this time follow the steps in Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 making sure to delete all partitions during booted install.

Put your wireless or ethernet driver on a stick or CD so that if the installer doesn't provide it you can install it to get online and get all Updates installed including the drivers Win7 wants.
