Doing a fresh oem win7 sp1 pro x64 install. After initial setup allowed Windows update to do It's thing (146 updates). Upon reboot I get the message "failure configuring windows updates" Have read extensively re. this issue but, unfortunately, have not found a definitive resolution.

System is dm1-z 4000 CTO (amd 450 apu, 8 GB ram) new hdd. Initially, had installed a new ssd but got the same thing. Thinking that it might be an issue with it, switched to a wd black 500 GB hdd. Same results.

Any ideas?

Hello and welcome Greywolf mate I don't know what the others think but as a general rule I usually do the initial updates in smaller batches.

Have a look at this anyway https://support.microsoft.com/kb/949358

@ICit2lol, starting to do that now. 2 or 3 at a time. Tedious for sure but, after only a couple of runs, working so far.

22 Jan 14, Update: Looks like installing a few updates at a time is working. It's a PITA but not as much as downloading all 146 and having them backed out on reboot.

It should not be necessary to install updates in batches. If you hit a problem again, zip up and upload the files under c:\windows\logs\cbs, and I will take a look.
