Solved Fresh win7 pro 64bit, HP 450 G2, has irritating lag and slowness

Hi all,
Im looking for help to make my laptop run as "free" and as good as possible. My harmony with hp laptops and win 7 experiences is ruined.

Backround:

I've used windows based systems since they came to the market, I've worked on help desk for an ISP and installed lots of systems. I've never had a problem with windows systems that I couldn't have solved. I've enjoyed using HP laptops and I've found it relatively easy and straight forward to "clean install" them to work with only the necessary processes. I hate using systems filled with bloatware and some other shit eating the process time & memory.

This seems to be difficult time for users like me, when manufacturers and software companies seems to have an opposite agenda.

The reason why I wrote is, that I just bought new laptop. Hated to see it full of shit and had to reinstall everything. Windows 7 pro license was included so I installed it with 64bit system.

For my unpleasant suprise, I didn't find a way to have this system running clean. Something seems to steal my resources; process time, memory or net bandwith and user experience is awful. After three install attempts, several different virus scans and huge struggle, only way I've been able to minimize this lag is to allow hp to install its assistants and other shit - that I usually havent accepted as part of my systems. And even in this way, I haven't been able to get rid of slowness and problems that I've never had before.

I wish someone who really knows what services can be turned off without messing with some crucial elements & features, would help me with this. I'm also interested to hear if someone else have experienced these problems with hp 450 g2 /win 7 pro 64bit.

Processor Intel Core i5-5200U CPU @ 2,2GHz & 2,2 GHz
RAM: 4GB
Windows 7 pro 64bit

So far I've tried to install windows without using the manufacturers DVD, that forces to install "prerequisite programs" before installing the drivers. I added the newest drivers I had downloaded from HP's site. I did everything as always before, but the problems continued and I wasn't able to eliminate the cause of problems.

Please help me to understand what is the cause of these problems.

1) Is there something new in 64bit systems compared to 32 bit windows, that could cause these problems that emerge immediately after clean install

2) Why the *** i should use some HP connection manager?
3) I would like to have system not sharing data with anyone, before I ask it to do so.
4) I haven't followed windows forums for years, and might have missed something crucial.

have you run "sfc/scannow" to c if there r any prob? what anti virus scans have u ran?

You don't need to disable any services.

Go through http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/219487-clean-reinstall-factory-oem-windows-7-a.html#post1839164 in order to see if your install is similar.

Anything in Resource Monitor that catches the eye? Especially in CPU (sort both Processes and Services by CPU), Memory (sort by Working Set) and Disk (check both read and write) tabs.

Is Windows up-to-date? SP1 installed? Any .Net framework updates recently installed (may be running the optimizations). Especially check "svchost.exe (netsvcs)" in Resource Monitor since this can be causing problems on some fresh systems.

Have only 1 AV simultaneously. You can get Malwarebytes Anti-Malware as a supplement to your AV though.

About the Clean Install; I might've forgot to say that I called to HP's office and incisted that they'll send me Clean Install for 64bit (I always do this, but didn't have 64bit install disk at shelf)

So they sent me the windows install disk and the manufacturers drivers & applications DVD.

So I've been in the impression that I've Clean Installed my system. After installing it, the system looks clean as always; just disabling some LMHOST lookup and NetBios settings from TCP IP 4. I usually disable & uninstll everything from else from my (wireless) network connection properties except TCP IP 6 & 4. This has worked so far,.. (so QoS, Client for MS networks & sharing, topologies... all disabled... This time I've tried also not to disable these, but didn't help me with "lag&slow".

So at this point, there are only 3 devices w/o drivers (at device manager). I installed the newest drivers from manufacturers website, but this didn't help at all.

ONLY thing I haven't updated - just noticed it now - is BIOS. hmm... maybe I should do it today...

I've installed all the updates windows update offers me. that's about 200 updates...

I use Sysinternals Process Explorer to see wtf is happening under the lid As you guessed, svchosts are shown to eat quite a lot of memory and potentia. There are 11 separate svchosts running; and these are eating the most of memory; Cryptographic services (CryptSvc), DNS Client (Dnscache), Network Location Awarness (Nlasvc), Telephony (TapiSrv), Workstation (Lanman workstation)

I've used only AV the time. (so far F-Secure, Malwarebytes, Defender... ) Aside of this, I'd like to underline, that I haven't had a singel virus since form-virus about 20 years ago

May or may not be important. In Device Manager for these unknown devices - properties - details - Hardware Ids from the list and copy paste here (or check in PCI Vendor and Device Lists the VEN_ and DEV_ numbers).

There will be many more updates, keep manually checking until they are not offered any more. However, Windows Update may need a little update itself first. That's why open a Resource Monitor , switch to CPU tab (sort both Services and Processes) and check if svchost.exe (netsvcs) consume a constant 25-50% CPU time. Then also check the Memory tab for it. No need to go into detail for those just yet (after you check).

.Net updates usually start a one time optimization routine/scan after restarting upon updating. Those may be another reason for slowness.

Hi, and thanks again for your quick reply. Currently there's only one unknown device, and Hardware Ids are:
ACPI\INT33A0
*INT33A0

And yes, I continue updating everything that keeps coming. Lately there has been only defender updates coming. Besides update, I started this time with downloaded updates - using WSUS. After that, I continued with update. (Not sure, but I think this might've helped with windows update, that didn't run as smooth in my previous attempt, where I didn't use WSUS. If I remember correctly, on that time windows update seemed to have some problems...)

Oh, forgot to mention, that I've uninstalled Internet Explorer and thus haven't installed the downloads for Internet explorer either. (I haven't had problems with this ever before. And I usually do it immediately after installing windows)

Currently no constant CPU load with any processes. On memory tab; svchost.exe (netsvcs) is sixth on the list, with memory Commit of 39 700 KB.

At the moment there's no constant awful lag. I should try to enter facebook and look what problems it will provide... my gut feeling is, that FB has something to do with problems linked to network connections.

I'd also like to know, what processes & software I can get rid of, without sacrificing stability. Strong dislike for all spyware...

Actually it killed the whole network connection for a while. I had to disconnect manually, close the FB tab, and reconnect to Wifi, to get Internet working again. (Nothling loaded after the FB)

Did you install Intel related drivers/software from laptop site? Like:

Rapid Storage Technology
Chipset driver
etc

Nope, management engine wasn't installed from HP's site. (I think it became installed via HP's drivers disc, that I used on this install) I'll update it anyway now. edit: no I hadn't have it installed at all!! (what does it do? and do I really need it?)

Oh, and the power plan is allready high performance.

correction: management engine seems to be installed on the system, even I didn't see it earlier.
I ran repair Management Engine just to be sure it works.

Just doublechecked that the latest version of windows update had been installed. (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3083324) And yes it is.

Uninstalling KB2999226 Windows 10 Universal CRT, caused HP to give me a warning, that newest chipset driver needs newer version of Windows. ... (i dont care... will remove all on that list)

After removing all of those updates on that list, restarted the system and tried to run facebook, no lag.

Yep, I'll try for a while and if I will see no lag, I'll start removing all this HP crap; like HP connection manager, HP accelometer... i mean with SSD computer... is it necessary?

Actually I was about to name the title first: Optimizing win 7 ... So I'm still interested to hear good ideas about what to remove for maximizing / optimizing the performance. This time however i'm very hopefull that it was those sneaky updates that rocked the boat.... we'll see...
