Hi!

Got some issues with my HP Pavilion t3713.sc Desktop PC and Windows 7(and VISTA)...

A few days ago, all out of the blue, my PC started to freeze - at that time with VISTA installed. I tried to restart and it froze again, just after a couple of minutes. Tried again, again, again and again. With the same result. Without getting any further I tried to install Windows 7 to get my PC up and running again. Formatted all of partitions to get a fresh and clean start... - and it froze again, within a couple of minutes.

Now I suspect it may be caused by a hardware problem? What is there to do? What can I do? I`m far from a PC-expert :)

I HP is somewhere between 1-3 years old I think, and I`ve never encountered this problem before, on this PC or any other.

Hello shred, welcome to Seven Forums!

Are you comfortable enough to open the PC and if so can you identify the RAM modules?

I know that some HP motherboards develop issues with multiple RAM sticks and removing some sorts the issue but you have to take care handling the sticks as they are very sensitive to stray static electric charges from being handled.

I could do that, what sort of information would I look for?

Forgot to mention that PC is in it original state, nothing has been removed/updated/added hardware-wise nor anything changed in the BiOS.

The problem just occoured over the night.

Thanks for the reply btw :)

I'm afraid my idea is no help as it seems there's only a single 1GB stick of RAM; keep checking back to see if others may have some ideas for you, I'm not really a hardware type.

Downloaded UBCD and randomly picked a couple, or more, of the HD diagnostic tools for tryout. (Suprisingly|luckily) one of the selected tools did not prompt with a error - and told me that I had a Samsung HD :) now I`m running Samsung Diagnostic

If this was a PC/Hardware issue, wouldn`t the PC freeze while in DoS?

Thanks for trying to help me guys.

Now I`ve formatted the HDD with Samsungs own tool, so I don`t think I can get it any cleaner. Anyway, now I can`t get passed the code 5 error when trying to boot the Windows 7 CD - caused by the BiOS/Motherboard I`ve heard. Is there a walk-around? The first time I used the Vista Recovery CD(already had Vista installed).

Weird, It´s only Windows that freezez. Linux for example works fine.

What I think I`m looking for, would be a bootable CD with ms-dos and CD-rom drivers ;)

then I can just switch CD`s and run SETUP.exe.

Looks like I`m not the only one having trouble installing Windows 7 with this motherboard.

Try install from USB flash stick: Install UltraISO trial version, on File tab open ISO or DVD, on Bootable Tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write. Boot under HD's or USB.

I kinda gave up trying to install a fresh and clean instance of Windows 7, so I tried with Windows Vista again, but not giving me this error ->

the file is possibly corrupt. the file header checksum does not match the computer checksum

Something must be seriously wrong... All I´ve done is a low level format.
