Friends Network unreachable

Hi group. I opened my Steam account today but am unable to load my Friends List.

Does anyone know how to fix this? This is the first time it happens.

In my opinion, Steam is a steamy pile of crap and adds lots of crap and overhead with more of a possibility of failure to what was an easy way to play games. Install disk, click setup.exe and that's it. But seen as how games have grown by leaps and bounds and have updates like every frigin day to the tune of gigabytes, I guess it makes sense.

It looks like your account isn't even connected. Is there a Steam exception in the Windows Firewall?

I deleted the Avira firewall and installed Microsoft Security Essentials except it is not working as it fails to update....

What I have done for my Windows 7 Pro MSE and WD is download:
Microsoft Security Essentials 32-bit | 64-bit
Windows Defender in Windows 7 and Windows Vista 32-bit | 64-bit
-- all four files into the same folder, overwriting the old four, bi-monthly or more often.
I left-click on each file and same gets loaded into Windows 7.

Windows Security Essentials works by miracle, after failing quite a few times.

But now i can't update Dota through Steam, it takes ages and can't get past 3%. When i close it and re-open the app, it goes back to zero. And my chat window works from time to time. Sometimes it fails.

Did you use the Avira uninstaller?

Avira may be your problem if it monkeys with the network stack. A lot of over-bloated anti-virus software does.

I, for the most-part, agree with your assessment of Avira. It is always prudent to use a dedicated uninstaller if available.

Most of computer programs have an executable file named uninst000.exe or uninstall.exe or something along these lines. You can find this files in the installation folder of Avira Antivirus.

I deleted AVIRA the same way as i delete most of my other apps, using control panel and clicking uninstall....So what now do i have to download it again and then uninstall it a second time using Revo??

(What does istall disk and click setup.exe mean?). I think my account was connected just the friends list wasn't....

Install disk is the disk that you used to install and application, operating system, program, etc.
Most nowadays are downloaded and installed via an executable (exe) application. Usually within a folder there is a file Setup.exe. In other words, the executable that sets up, installs that program. There are also programs such as Windows 7 that are downloaded as ISO files. That is compressed & can be decompressed with 7-zip. If you look in the folder that is created, you will again see a program called Setup.exe. That is the executable installer for Windows 7. You click on it and it begins the installation process. There are also one click installers. Ninite is one of my favorite places to obtain free applications and they create one click installers for you. They install with all default settings, no crapware. The Ninite Installer also acts as an updater, simply click the installer again & it updates them.

I usually install and uninstall programs through REVO Uninstaller. Removes many items that the programs uninstaller misses.
