Solved Front Panel audio not working correctly

When I plug-in my headphones into the front panel jack, the audio will only emit from the left speaker. I haven't tried re-seating my sound card, don't know if it's necessary. Is there anything other than analog output (Xonar DX Audio Center) that I have to change in order for it to work correctly?

I'm using UNi Xonar drivers. They are a fixed version of the Asus drivers.

When you say "...the audio will only emit from the left speaker." do you mean that you are running this piece of kit as 2.1 channel, with sereo and a woofer, or more than 2 speakers? I ask because, although I am not 'into' gaming and PC sound issues, I did know quite a bit about Hi Fi sound once.

The Review states that the card uses 2 chips to provide sound to each set of channels, instead of the 1 chip as used by Creative. If, as you say, your card may not be seated correctly, this could cause your problem. Won't harm to check, if you are careful. My thinking, which may be wrong, is that one chip may serve right channels whilst the other serves left channels.

Also, note this from the Review: "... the Xonar DX still requires a power connector..." and this: " it’s a floppy connector and not a Molex..."

I wonder if you made the right connections? Not doubting your knowledge or technique at all, but I have missed stuff by simply not reading the instructions carefully enough. Or not at all, sometimes.

That's about all I can help you with, hope you sort it and if so please post back with results, I am intrigued now.

In the software, there are 2 front panel options: FP Headphone and FP 2 Speakers.

I have it on FP Headphone. Right now, I'm using Hi-Fi headphones (that I literally got ~20 minutes ago from Amazon). I have 5.1 headphones connected directly into the rear of the sound card for when I want to play games, but as of right now I have to take out stereo if I want to listen from these SR80i's I just got.
About the power: I am aware. It prompts you after you first boot from installing the sound card, asking if it's been connected.

I just plugged my FP cable back into my motherboard audio and the problem doesn't change. So it's not a problem with the sound card. Could it still be something in the OS or BIOS?

Seeing as your case has both AC'97 and HD Audio connections from the from panel,



make sure you are using the HD connection. Pretty sure that the FP header on the Xonar is HD and not AC'97.

Rules that out then. Seeing as you said that it happens on both the Xonar and onboard, I would tend to believe that it is possible the fpaudio connection is not wired correctly. If that it what it is, I would contact Silverstone and see what they have to say.

I was thinking that. I sent Silverstone an email yesterday to their EU office, they are yet to reply.
This is a real pain, I'll probably have to send the whole chase back for replacement.

I contacted SilverStone, they believe the I/O is definitely defective.
