Guess you aren't familiar with this specific board, it's one of the early republic of gamer boards.
It has a special pci-e 1 type slot on it specifically for this audio card, but it doesn't have any audio without it.
I did just finish removing 3 non existent network devices that appeared on my system overnight... then running a virus scan, and checking system logs to see why the hell they were there in the first place.
Overall I've not had that many problems with this rig to be honest, despite asus deciding to supply absolutely no win 7 support for it, even though it wasn't that old when 7 was released.
...anyhow, long story short, there is no built in audio on this board, they opted for the card to provide the optical audio support. (which I do actually use)
Anyhow, as long as this problem is specific to this one game, I'm not going to risk messing with a system that has never blue screened or locked up on me for it.
