I received my Asus UL30A-X5 machine today, loaded with Windows 7 Home Premium.

This is my replacement as I had a loose battery issue on the last.

I love Windows 7.

My machine as a SD card reader. On the last, it worked great.

On this one, when I insert the card into the machine, I get the following Error:

"Devices did not install properly".

I did a system scan to see what was wrong and I get this message:

Hardware Changes Might Not have been detected

I am completely baffled as to what the issue is. I checked my card in another machine and the card works fine. I also reinstalled the drivers from Asus in case that was the issue, but it's apparent that Windows is not recognizing the card.

Can anyone please advise me as to what the fix for this might be? Now, when I insert the card, it does nothing...no sound, no message, nothing.

Thanks for the help

Sean

Try uninstalling the drivers for the SD card that you installed, then reboot and reinstall them if that fails do a system restore and install them again. That might help you.

I would have to wonder...If i buy one computer that had to be returned beacuse of shoddy workmanship or faulty hardware....why I would expect the second machine just like it from the same people to be any different....perhaps it needs to be returned as well? Second thought...If I pay money for a product that is gaurnteed to work...but dosen't...I want my money back to buy a better product....just my opinion.

That's a reasonable position. But not all computers are "shoddy". I bought 4 of them and they all work perfectly well.

Well, I did as mentioned but did not work...restored my computer to right after I installed Microsoft Office which I put on right after I received my machine.

I'm really puzzled as to what the heck is going on.

Something definitely with my machine at this point or the drivers. I'm just not sure how this could have happened at this point.

That error message that I put in bold down below in my original...what does this mean? And what is the fix with that message?

If anyone knows the answer for this I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Go to Device Manager > Portable devices. Then double click on every device it shows and see whether it says "This device is working properly" - if not, go to the driver tab, uninstall the driver and reboot.

My trusty old Novatech card reader isn't even detected by W7 x64, I had to swap it out for a completely new one LOL... I'm hoping by SP1 it might get a new lease of life because it works fine under x86, and Windows detects it and loads generic drivers all by itself...
