I cannot stand people like that. They are the reason malware and botnets spread more. ugh

I doubt people who never update are even aware of such news. If you follow tech news then you are more or less tech-savvy and MUST be aware that frequent updates are overall better for security.

They hear the news from "some expert guy in the next cubicle".

Also, if some update breaks their PC, they will remember it.

People:

• Tend to remember the outliers (i.e. spectacular failures and spectacular successes)
• Are also more likely to believe their friends, as opposed to "unknown" experts

In the case of PCs, people ignore how many times updates have worked correctly and only remember the failures.

What annoys me is when people ask for my help, but then they refuse to follow the advice I give them.

People also have a mind set that "It will not happen to me" and I stopped counting how many times friends ring to say they opened an attachment even though their AV jumped to warn them not to open it but they just ignore it hoping for the best and when the best turns to the worst they start complaining about MS or their AV but never blame themselves for their stupidity

I just found thid thread and I am wondering, what are these chips used in though? Are there any examples of types of devices that use chips like this?

Edit: I know I am not affected though as I have checked Device Manager and the Windows Update history and there is nothing about FTDI there for my systems.

If I understood it correctly, they make chips/modules/integrated circuits for USB connectivity, which are used on motherboards.

Also, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be able to find anything in Devide Manager, as it is not a traditional, or "standalone" component, I assume.

Well I have looked up about this more and some people actually say that it can be found in Device Manager if you have it. Also, how did this affect so many people when drivers are not supposed to install automatically from Windows Update by default?
