FTP over local network

I have two computers that I would like to have FTP between.

One with Windows Vista 64bit
Another with Ubuntu 9.10

What kinds of steps do I need to go through to get files from my Vistas HDD to the Ubuntu's HDD.

The fastest way -- FTPDMIN: Minimal ad-hoc file transfer Windows FTP server Windows 7 will alert you that it's listening on the FTP ports but that's what you want right? Make note of the IP address it's listening on and make sure that's the address on your local network you want.

Then just use your favorite FTP client in Ubuntu...

Focksie, do you want to transfer files between the two computers? If so, why not just use Samba, it's far simpler... Only one command...

Until firewalls come into play perhaps.

Samba port under Linux is well defined, and most of the time is already recorded and is open once you enable Samba file sharing (this is if you want to share the Linux host's files). On Windows 7's side, firewall exception is only 1 tick away...

It's easy to configure firewall to allow Samba connection...
