Fujitsu Scanner Suddenly Crashing (Affecting multiple programs!)

Hello! I'm rather new to the world of scanners. I happened on an old Fujitsu fi-7160, for which online support is close to zero. never a good sign

Out of the blue, the scanner software I use began getting stuck between the phases of "preparing to scan" and "scanning". I tried updating Windows (7 ultimate 32bit), the drivers it uses (TWAIN and ISIS are provided, gotten directly from the official website) as well as the suggested next freeware (Paperstream Capture vs Paperstream IP). This hasn't solved the problem - I dug through every fujitsu- and PFU- related software on my computer, deleted them all, and reinstalled from the disc, still to no avail.

The device troubleshooter can't find anything, and I can't open scan properties (I'm the admin and only account). Additionally, Windows Scan is also unable to scan from the device. Lastly, Photoshop Elements 7 is incapable of opening. I've been told the issues may be related as PSE7 tries to run a "scan from device" option.
Also possibly related : around the same time I got the scanner issues, I got a drawing tablet (wacom intuos) with its own drivers, though disabling these does not fix the problem.

I'm at my wit's end here! I would greatly appreciate some assistance, if anyone is familiar with this issue. I can provide any extra needed info!

Hello and welcome xcrompus mate first up please see this

Nowbefore we can help we do need to know what is in your machine soplease do this System Info - See Your System Specs

oreither enter the specs of your system in your forum profile the specswill appear when we click on that little box bottom left of the postscreen it is for me the preferable option as it is easy. As you mayappreciate it is very hard when you don’t know what one is workingwith for example a diesel or petrol engine.

(pretypedto save time)

Now when you are trying Properties are you right clicking on that ? and are you running the scanner via cable or wifi? Sory about the large print my machine is playing up right now
