Full Screen exits for no apparent reason

Hi, I'm on W7 (7600) Ultimate and up until about a week ago everything was working pretty good, but now applications exit full screen mode on their own.
It seems to be totally random, I'll be sat watching a movie in Media Player Classic (or WMP/VLC) and it'll just exit from full screen, at no particular time, for no reason that I can find. It does the same thing if I have iTunes playing (with Visualizer) in full screen mode.
As far as I'm aware I haven't changed anything or installed any new software around the time it started happening.
I'd perform a system restore and see if that would help...if "Windows 7 Manager" hadn't deleted them all!!

I don't have a screensaver so I it's not that triggering the full screen exit.

Also, I have to use the mouse before the app will respond, I can't simply use Alt+F, not until I've clicked the mouse.

Any ideas please?

Thanks.

Edit: It is also doing something in other apps ie Firefox. I just noticed as I was typing that my cursor disappeared and I had to use the mouse click to get it back.

I'm having a similar issue. While playing games (all my games do it), they will randomly exit to desktop as if there were a system notice but there is none. It is becoming quite annoying especially since I don't know what is causing it so I can attempt to fix it. It doesn't close the game and I can click on the game icon in the taskbar. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Well at least it's not just my machine then!
I've searched all over the net for a solution but had no luck whatsoever .
I've tried cleaning my junk files and registry, but it's still doing it. It happened about 4 times during a 90 minute .avi file last night - it's really bugging me!!!

I have the same problem on both my machines, but on XP!
I don't think this is a Windows 7 specific problem. Its driving me mad on my HTPC since when i watch a movie it typically exits full screen mode 4-5 times. On my work PC, Word can suddenly be deactivated and doesnt register what i write so i have to click on it do activate it again. Same can happen in for example Firefox.

This is something that has happened on my machines for the past weeks. I have not installed any new software on both machines, although i know that i have updates AVG Free and Java on both machines, could that be the problem?

I have the feeling it is some kind of process thats supposed to be done in the background (like java checking for updates) that for some reason is in the "foreground" without being visible and deactivating the program im using.

If you figure it out, please let me know.
(funny, just while writing the "w" in the last word it happened again)

Now that you mention it, I DID upgrade to AVG 9.0 here recently. But I did it on my laptop too and I don't have this problem. Just a thought. I might try turning off AVG next time I play a game and see if it helps. If it does I'll get back to you guys.

Well, thanks for that. I closed AVG9 and it seems to have stopped the problem. Just tried 2 avi files at approx 22mins each and neither exited full screen.
I haven't only just updated, as far as I'm aware, apart from the virus definition update so I'm still not sure as why it's only recently started happening.
Either way, it seems there is at least a solution for me....upto now!!!

Thanks.

Yeah definitely AVG, hasn't happened once since closing it.

Problem solved?

I don't know if it's problem solved but I just played Borderlands for 30 minutes after closing AVG and didn't have it exit on me at all. Hmmm

Edit: Okay so I played for about 3hrs today with AVG off and no random exits. I guess we've found the culprit. Now we just have to find out why it's doing it and what to do to stop it. Any ideas?

Glad to help guys!
Haven't had much time to test but yesterday I tried disabling everything AVG I could find in msconfig and I could watch a 2 hour movie without problem. Upon enabling AVG again the problem reappeared.

So I guess it's rollback to AVG 8.5 or try another antivirus app.

Not avg

I'm new here to this site and was reading about the same problems I'm having about full screen exiting on it's own. I saw that u all are turning off the AVG to see if that's the problem, well, I dont think it is because I am running a Norton 360 and on my other computer, i'm running Avast anit-virus and it IS still doing it to me. I dont think it's our anit-virus at all, there is some kind of problems going on in our computers and to me, i have a feeling it has something to do with the updates we get now and then. Just to let u all know that it's not AVG, cuz i'm running two other virus protection on two different computer and i'm still having that problems.

Since this is the first result on Google for this problem, one solution is:

Go to Options->Playback and uncheck "Exit fullscreen at the end of playback"

I am surprised nobody has suggesting running Malwarebytes! Try it - Also get rid of AVG and all the others. Download and install Microsoft Essentials Security.

You seem to have posted this problem on more than one thread, yet another old one. This is against Forum Rules so I shall bow out and leave this to others!
