Solved Fullscreen application is not displayed on secondary monitor

Hi guys,

Maybe there is someone that has faced a problem like mine. I have two DVRs, each consists of 4 cams. I access them via Internet Explorer. I have two monitors and I would like to display cameras from the 1st DVR on 1st screen, and cams from 2nd DVR on 2nd screen. My configuration is extended desktop with two monitors.

Monitor no.1 is fine - i press "FULL SCREEN" button in the web application and 4 cams all fullscreened 2x2 matrix on the 1st monitor.

The problem is with the 2nd DVR and 2nd monitor. Every time I press "FULL SCREEN" button in the web application (which is moved to the 2nd monitor in the first place), the application goes fullscreen on the 1st monitor and covers the previously fullscreened cameras from the 1st DVR.

Do you know how can I force an application that is going fullscreen to maximize on the monitor it is currently working on?

it would help if you fill in your system specs.

especially what video card(s), and note how you have your monitors connected (hdmi, vga, etc.)

Nvidia and AMD have configuration programs - maybe look through there and check your settings.

The system is:
ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS AT5IONT-I
First monitor is connected via DVI->HDMI adapter, second one uses HDMI port.
However I do not think that this is a GPU related problem. I think that just most of the application were not designed to work in extended desktop mode. I though maybe there are some activex settings that might be changed, but no luck with that yet.

When it maximizes on the wrong screen, have you tried using Win+Shift+Left/Right to move it back to the appropriate monitor?

okey, i have tried win+shift+left/right, but it just puts on the top of the 2nd monitor the IE window from which the fullscreen image originated, it does not affect the fullscreen image that is still displayed only on the main screen.

I thought that this simple operation can move the overlay window to the right by the horizontal amount of pixels that corresponds to the actual resolution unfortunately not, i am going to try a program now.

upgrade:
multimon, ultramon and dual monitors does not work, they only affect windows, my fullscreened app is an overlay-based activex control, and it is not affected by windows management. Do you know any way to manage overlay position i.e. registry change after the first window is maximized so the second one will maximize with the displacement according to the screen width.

Just out of curiosity, can you give us a screenshot of what this overlay-based activex control looks like? Considering it's not something that inherits windows management from the OS, it sounds like this would only be addressed by the person who developed this control. Just a guess, though, as I have no other ideas regarding this.

I will as soon as I will be in a front of that machine, but it is quite easy to descrisbe - you have 4/9/16 squares/rectangles with camera image inside each of them, and that's it. Right click disables that overlay fullscreen, left click on the cam enlarges that particular cam to the whole fullscreen area disabling other cams. left click again brings the 4/9/16 cameras view again. I am trying to contact manufacturer tech support, but as I am from outside the US, is seems to be a problem, even tough our equipement was bought using official sales representative for Europe.

update:
I am able to replace the machine with nVidia ION chip with the new one where I can put a low profile PCI-E GPU - so it can be for example Radeon 5450 with Eyefinity or a cheap Quadro card. What would you suggest that can help to deal with the situation i am facing? Maybe there is some software that I can put the IE "inside" and maximize it to the fullscreen - like VM or something? Image capture and redisplay is not an option as the fullscreen from the 2nd window will cover the 1st window at the oryginal position.

This issue isn't manufacturer-specific to the video card you use. It's an implementation in Windows and the software utilizing the window libraries. Specifying which monitor is the "primary" monitor for the application to full-screen is usually done within the application itself. What you're seeing is the default behavior of only going full-screen on the primary monitor. Some games and applications will allow you to specify which monitor is your primary monitor for full-screen, which seems to be the only way around this. If your DVR software doesn't have that, I'm afraid you might be out of luck as I can't seem to find any other solution to this problem.

Thanks for your aid folks. This issue must be fixed by AVERMedia QA&Dev(I am not sure if they ever will). However most propably I will solve my issue - I will buy secondary nettop, cheapest possible, and use Synergy (opensource) to create kind of "virtual system" consisting of two PCs.
