Funny Driver Issue HP a6720f

Hello All,

I have had a bushel basket of fun trying to get my computer set for sound recording and currently I can get it working phenomenally with my sound production computer. Vista was awful trying to run anything so I figured what the hey Windows 7 Beta is worth a try.

Here's the funny behavior, when I start up the computer I have driver latency spiking. Did the same thing in Vista, however there wasn't a fix in vista. (Disabled all drivers except ones necessary for sound production).

So Driver latency spiking, I go onto the internet. All is well, then I try to download something. Downloads for 4 seconds and then the internet shuts off and cannot be repaired. However, my latency has normalized and I can now use everything I need to for my sound production. I just can't use the internet......

Windows 7 won't let me install the drivers for the ethernet and wireless it says that the driver set is not compatible with this version of windows. Anyone have any idea what is happening or a way I can correct the internet issue without reviving the driver latency issue? I'd rather have a decent recording setup than internet I have a laptop I can get on the internet with but internet is always nice.

Install the lan driver from this page if you are using x86:

This is the 32 bit driver and my computer is 64 bit, does that make a difference or is that what Windows 7 is setup for? I tried to install the Lan 64 bit driver for my PC from the website but it quit the install because it didn't like the version of windows.

Windows 7 can be either 32 or 64 bit, depending on which you chose to install. Go to start menu, right click computer, choose properties. It will tell you.

If you installed 64 bit of Windows 7, try the 64 bit version driver again, using compatibility mode for Vista. Hopefully that should work. Right click on the install .exe, choose properties, then compatibility tab.

You might have to install the drivers in compatibility mode for vista.

Yeah I tried all the modes, Vista, Vista SP1 and SP2. IT keeps telling me my operating system doesn't meet the requirements then quits the updates.

Well, the RC build 7100 is available directly from Microsoft in 32 and 64 bit. Drivers are actually one of the talked about improvements in this release. You could possibly try upgrading to that...meaning clean install, or if you are feeling bold, actual upgrade.
