Future Ram Upgrade

Currently, I have 2 x 2GB sticks of Patriot PGS34G1600LLKA RAM, which I know is sufficient for the things that I do, however I'm wondering if doubling that would make a significant difference while encoding video, either in speed or quality?

I personally think it will make your system run smoother but a big noticeable difference is questionable.

Good question!! When your encoding a Video check device manager 'Permormance tab' if all your physical memory is being used then yes you would benefit from more Ram. But not by much. However if the memory usage is low then don't waste your money.

What happens when all your memory is being used it starts using your hard drive as physical memory which in turn slows down the process.

Encoding video is a task that the CPU takes on. You have a dual core CPU, I've gathered.
A four core CPU will decrease the time it takes to do the tasks, but when it comes to quality,
you're at the mercy of the software.

Quality is determined by the settings you chose in the encoder, so the amount of ram in the system won't affect that.

Extra ram may not help you at all unless your encodes are much much faster than real time.
Faster CPU would help you out a lot more.
