Just picked up a new Asus P8P67 Deluxe board and a i7 2600K. I currently have 4 sticks of Mushkin Silverline 1333MHz in there now but they are being sold with my older board. I can get a great deal on a G.Skill Ripjaws X 1866Mhz from a local store but I have absolutely no knowledge of G.Skill. Just wondering what’s everyone’s thoughts are on G.Skill?

I've personally not used them but I have a few friends that do and they swear by them. Only one thing to consider, the hight of the heat spreaders, make sure that your CPU fan has clearence for the extra height of the RAM.

Thanks. The cooler I have will pose a problem should I use the slot closest to the CPU but with a 2 stick kit I should be fine.

So far the reviews on G.Skill products are pretty reputable but you do get the odd fanboy claiming they are cheap crap!

I have 12GB of G Skill Ripjaws in my computer right now. They work good for me. And I am not a fanboy of G Skill. Also, The Ripjaws have heatspreaders, but most/many HSF will fit over them- just barely but usually they will fit, but nothing any taller will.

As for being cheap - it depends on the model. All the major brands have 'cheap' models which utilize cheaper quality chips etc

I have some G.Skill DDR2 1100Mhz PI in my 775 rig and they are rock solid.

I also used some DDR3 G.Skill NQ's (the cheap range) temporarily and they were perfectly fine.


As for non-fanboy anecdotal evidence, people report having less issues quality wise than other brands.

Basically, they'll do the job.

I've used G.Skill in 3 different builds and they have all been solid and I would not hesitate for a second to buy them again. My current set is DDR2-800 PI series with 4-4-4-12 timings. The only thing I have used in the past 2 years outside of G.Skill is the Corsair XMS2 series.

I've been using G.Skill since my kit of 400/550. It's been my luck that all my boards have all had G.Skill on their approved list. Great stuff, great price. I've had about 8 kits so far, all are still in use somewhere on the planet.

I wouldn't think twice about purchasing G-Skill RAM, especially if you see a good price.

Its perfectly fine, and no issues from it here.

So I grabbed an 8Gb kit. The pictures online don’t do them justice…they are a lot nicer once you get them in your hands. Came with a mounting bracket and 2 small LED fans but given the size of my CPU cooler it won’t fit. I have pretty good air flow throughout my case so I don’t foresee any problems with overheating!

Now it’s time to see what this machine can do! I’ll post my results in the Overclock forum!!!

This board and CPU is crazy!! I was able to boot and stress test for 30 min at 4.7Ghz but decided to back down and read a bit more on the settings. Also got some bizarre temp readings out of the Asus Probe software…the CPU should not read 25c at idle and 35 under load. My cooler is NOT that good! Im guessing with a tweak here and there I could reach 4.9 possibly 5+ Ghz with air!!
