My gadgets on the desktop disappeared and when I tried to restore them I got the following message:
Can't find c:Programs
I recently followed instructions to eliminate "Libraries" which really worked great but I wonder if that had something to do with the gadgets disappearing. Don't remember exactly when they did disappear.

If you dont want to use my previous solution of system restore try this

If this does not work, open control panel, select desktop gadgets and install again. I also did some research, some say that if UAC is off, the gadgets disappear, did you turn off the UAC?

If I do a Systems restore then I will lose the work I did getting rid of the libraries. Don't like libraries and i don't want to go through that again if I can help it.
Is there a C:Programs or do they mean C:Programs files ??
Was C:Programs part of the Libraries ??

I tried reinstalling gadgets but got the same error message that it couldn't find C:Programs.
I don't remember changing UAC.

Apparently getting rid of the Libraries did have an effect. I just checked my C:program Files and there were 4 folders with nothing in them. Before I do a restore does this appear to be my problem ???

If you noticed the change about the same time you eliminated libraries, I would say so. Don't worry. Make a system image of your OS, now. Put it on a separate hard drive. Now, use system restore to put you back to an earlier point. Dont like it, put everything back with system image. You cant lose.

No the sidebar.exe is not showing in the taskmanager.
Would this have anything to do with my C:programs Files being empty ??
I did try a systems restore but it said it was unsuccessful..Maybe due to a virus program running

Sidebar.exe must be running for the gadgets to work.... In your situation, you have more issues than your gadgets that would best be resolved with a repair install... then leave system files like libraries alone until you are more experienced...

Run an A/V scan. Getting rid of a potential virus is more important than gadgets.

I don't think I have a Virus because it said to turn off the Virus program. I think it would have said get rid of the Virus if that was the problem.

Lets see, if I were writing a virus, what would I tell the user...hmm..oh yeah.. Please turn off your anti-virus program... You have come here looking for advice ... at least try what is suggested instead of telling us why you shouldn't... With that, I'm 10-7... Good luck with your problem....

I have Norton security program running so that is why I didn't think I had a problem with a Virus. I did run a check anyway and it came up clean. That is why I questioned your suggestion. I appreciate you trying to help but what make you think everyone should follow your advise without asking questions ?? Most people learn by asking questions and not following blindly suggestions given on a forum. I been on enough forums to know you have to be careful about following every suggestion you get. I admit I'm a newbie with Win 7 but I have been using computers probably before you were born. My first computer was a PDP 4. A 4 bit computer where you had to toggle in 4 bits at a time. I'm now 80 and probably slowing down a bit but I still enjoy keeping up with the new technology. Sorry again that I had the audacity to questioned your suggestion

Just thought I would up-date what I found out. It appears that for some unknown reason my C:\Programs file was moved inside the C:\programs files (x86). I moved it to its proper location and every thing is back to normal now.
I Big thanks to all that tried to help.:D
