Gadgets not working

HP Laptop,
Pentium dual core T4200 @ 2GHz w/ 3GB RAM.

I formatted the HDD, then ran a clean installation of Windows 7 64-bit Ulitmate (enterprise edition) on my laptop that was running Vista. I now have partial gadgets working, date and time work fine, calendar works fine. I however can no longer utilize anything that needs internet connectivity though internet works fine. I went in and checked programs and features. Gadgets are enabled. Downloaded Weather Bug, it also does not work.
Created new QWORD 64 bit named “AllowElevatedProcess” and set its value as “1″ in registry as suggested by other site fixes to no avail.
Not sure what to try next. Other site fixes seem vague.

Any suggestions?

Firewall or anti-virus perhaps.
