Gadgets!!

Whenever I download a gadget and double click it nothing happens.. I can open the Gadget menu on the desktop and use windows default gadgets but can seem to install any of my own that have been downloaded! I have turned UAC on and off. Tried putting the gadget into the gadget folder. Have also tried adding the AllowElevatedProcess
to the registry in Windows Sidebar but still no look.
Please help me!

Are you copying the folder to shell:gadgets?

Unzipping them onto the desktop is not a good place. Created a folder on one of your hard drives called UnZipped. Then create subfolders in UnZipped for each different gadget that you want to install. Then try installing them from the subfolders.

Installing gadget

No matter what i try i cant seem to install any new gadgets. When i double click nothing appears or anything. I tried allowing elevated process in registry. Tried copying gadget to the gadget folder but still nothing.

Try disabling your anti-virus. Then download a new copy of the gadget, and run it.

Just to make sure, you're double-clicking on the .gadget file, and nothing is happening?

Has it always been this way, or did this just recently arise?

Have you un checked Show desktop gadgets, under View form the desktop context menu? That will stop the sidebar.exe process, and go back and re enable it, then try.

I tried the second and they were already turned on.
I cant seem to find this check box under the view section?

Yeah, Windows Gadget Platform is on of course, or gadgets wouldn't be there. You have to follow the tutorial, and turn it of, reboot, and go back and turn it back on, then try.


And for the View -








If you don't see it there, did you turn the gadget platform off from the tutorial, and not go back and re enable it?

Edit - I guess you have gadgets there on the desktop, and don't have it under View in the context menu. Weird. I might try running sfc/scannow, and if nothing comes up, maybe a repair install.

So i did the scan and here are results.

To me, it looks like you've got more going on than just not being able to install some gadgets.

To do this do i boot from the windows 7 CD a click repair

Best to read and follow the tutorial step by step. Write or print out the instructions down if you have to.

Ok right guys sorry it has been sometime but thought i would just post back!

First of all I did a re-install (Upgrade no full re-install) so i kept all my files and programs.
This seemed to solve the problem.
