I recently had to strip down my PS3 and do a refloat of the RSX and Cell CPU, it wasn't easy, but I did it. I must admit, it would have been easier if I had someone point me in the right direction.

I also ended up completely rebuilding a bluray drive that I butchered trying to get my game out of.

Have you fixed many PS3's?

Ive fixed over 50 in the last 4 months, my return rate is low at the minute but last year it was throught the roof

I blame the lead free solder they use for the YLOD's. IMHO, it's not up to the job, plus, the cooling system is less than adequate.

Its lead free because the health and saftey reg's say the playstation is a childs toy, but i HIGHLY dont think there going to take a PS3 apart and start licking the solder. The reason why the Nitendo Wii doesnt brake is beacuse its leaded solder. Daft really, well for some people, its how i make spare cash

Hmmm... interesting, how did Nintendo sneak the leaded solder in their console then? Surely, it is also classed as a toy, even though I agree with you that kids are unlikely to disassemble the thing and eat it.

Haha im not sure, The same thing is apparent with the Xbox 360. I dont know how Nintendo slipped the net? But thats the problem, the solder crystilises and then cracks creating a cold solder joint. A reflow will fix this, you might be lucky with your playstation but once its done. The solder will crystalise again but a higher temp reflow will be needed. Untill you get to a point where a reflow won't work. And a reball is needed.

Yeah , I looked at a reball, but financially it seemed pointless.

After my YLOD, I increased the cold airflow across the chips with the addition of four more fans, I also have it resting on a laptop cooler fan. If I get 12 months more out of it I will be happy, but I think I'm being optimistic.

How long do you guarantee your repairs for?

I give the custmer 1 months warranty.

1 month.

I hope mine lasts longer than that.
