Thanks to whoever wrote the guide, i installed 7 and than xp without a hitch, i did have initial problems installing xp though (bsod error), i did some study time and found that i needed sata drivers to install it, and i had to slipstream it using nlite. now im having to hunt down drivers, kind of difficult.i cant find the ricoh 1394 driver, i need it for firewire audio

I think this is my problem as well, since I am doing a similiar install (I have new HP pc with Win7 and need an XP partition to play some games that aren't Win7 friendly).

Where/how did you get the drivers you need if you don't mind sharing. Also, could you maybe give me a short step-by-step for what you did to get around the issues you had? Thanks!

Hello daverozelle, welcome to Seven Forums!

Have you tried the games in http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/316-compatibility-mode.html?ltr=C

I have tried, and it makes no difference on the two games I am currently fighting with. Both run in Win7, but neither can get beyond a 8-10 fps no matter what version of compatibility I run them in. Viewing the publishers forums, I am faaaaar from alone in this problem. Simple solution is a dual boot system to get them into a true XP environment.

Dual-booting is something I wanted to do anyway.

My problem now, is no matter what XP CD/DVD I use (i have two and even tried a couple from torrentz to test the theory) I get a BSOD as soon as the XP installer finishes loading drivers and tries to start the actual setup executable.

I have tried to stream in my own SATA drivers, but it has no effect. I either have bad/wrong drivers or the error is actually something else.

I am getting the "0x0000007B" error.

Game's won't work - you have integrated graphics and a slow quad-core cpu. You need a dedicated card. What XP games are you trying to run?

Game's won't work - you have integrated graphics and a slow quad-core cpu. You need a dedicated card. What XP games are you trying to run?

I figured the dedicated GPU would be a definite bottleneck, but it's still a bit ahead of my old GeForce4500 in the old box.

I finally got XP to install, I had to use nVidia drivers from pack (15.26) to get the right SATA drivers and then installed (15.45) to get the video card and other devices up to date. But again, the dedicated video seems to be a real bottleneck.

The games on hand right now are Assasin's Creed, Far Cry 2, and Aion. Aion runs pretty well though, the other two top out at about 8-10 fps.

I was able to get FC2 up to 28fps avg by dropping to LOW settings and 640x480. LOL

I have every intention of adding a dedicated card by Christmas - I know better than to rely on the onboard video for games. However, I see that my PS is not really up to snuff for anything decent. Anyone know if there are restrictions on PS I can add to the HP box?

I haven't built a pc in about 4-5 years and I know a lot has changed.

You need a PCI x16 v2.0 slot to run games as they should be run - I think your slot is v1 so a new system is in order. That being said, I'm looking to build this system, and its fairly cheap but good enough for games @ 1680x1050:

CPU: AMD Phenom II 550 Black Edition @ 3.1GHz

RAM: G-Skill Ripjaws 4GB (2x2GB) 1333MHz

HARD DRIVE: Seagate Barracuda 500GB SATA II 7200.12

GPU: Gigabyte ATI Radeon 5770 1GB GDDR5

MOTHERBOARD: Gigabyte MA 785GT-UD3H

OPTICAL DRIVE: Pioneer DVR-218 SATA II

CHASSIS: Antec Two Hundred

PSU: Antec True Power New 650w

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate x64 OEM

I'm not sure about USD pricing but that just fits what I want to pay, give or take a 100.

For simplicity, I will just link you over to the thread I am participating in at HP... but short version - this system is only a few weeks old so it IS the new system. :o

After much discussion with HP, the nForce 720a motherboard DOES have PCIe version 2.0 slots. So I have already purchased and am awaiting delivery on a new 650w Thermaltake PSU and Radeon 4890 GPU.

We'll see how it goes.

PS - Aries, yes, I slipstreamed the drivers. But I had to use one set of nVidia drivers for the SATA and another set for everything else. Don't know why.

Yea, you might think. But HP apparently doesn't want to share too much "classified" information. :)

First of all, I followed this guide exactly. The only difference for me was that my install CD did not have the proper SATA drivers for my motherboard, thus the errors. I was able to create my own install cd and slipped in more SATA drivers. This is the article I used to do that from DigitGeek.

The trick for me (and everyone) is to find the RIGHT drivers for your board. It took me about 6 tries (and 6 worthless DVD burns) to find the right combo of SATA drivers to get the install up and running. But once I did, I had not troubles with the install.

You need to find the make/model of your motherboard, then check the specs there and determine your chipset. Search google for sata drivers for that motherboard/chipset.

It sounds like you have an nVidia board if it has the 9100 on board video. In that case, you want to search nVidia's site for SATA drivers for the OLDEST OS you are installing. Which I presume is 98.
