I have a lot of games which I purchased when I ran Windows XP. Now, they will install in Windows 7 without a problem but, as soon as I try to run any of them I get the message:- "this program has stopped working, Windows will now close the program and notify you if there is a solution....", or words to that effect. I have Windows 7 Professional without HAV capability, and have also tried installing and running the games in compatibility mode for XP SP3 & 2. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

What you could try, is right click the .exe file, and click properties, in there should be a compatibility tab. In here you should check, "run this program in compatibility mode for", and choose Windows XP service pack 2. Now if it's still giving you any problems, then probably there's something wrong with your drivers (video card perhaps?). So check your video card manufacturer's site for possible updates. Also check if your DirectX is up to date (you can get it from the microsoft site).

Good luck

I have tried compatibility for SP2, no luck. On my device manager, the video card driver is up to date. Bear in mind, the computer is only 1 month old, so everything should be current.

Thanks for your suggestions

Have you tried selecting "Run as Administrator" from the advanced options?

Many games need access to system settings, and if not admin will fail.

all games will not work  I had to download DirectX 9c runtimes eventhough DirectX 11 is installed on W7 x64 to get some of my "older" games to work like CoD:MW and CoD:WaW....they would crash or not even start up until I installed the DX 9c runtimes and now I have no problems with any of the games

PS. imho I would check to make sure that your video/sound drivers are current instead of trusting that the latest drivers are loaded just because your computer is only a month old
