Gaming LCD monitors

I currently have a 17inch crt dell monitor, which has lasted longer than i thought it would. But i doubt it will last much longer. So i've decided to invest in a LCD monitor. I know that ms and contrast ratio are important when considering a monitor for gaming as well as the resolution. So.

Around how much ms and contrast ratio should i look for? I'm trying to find a good gaming monitor between $150-$200.

I like to play First person shooters, so that gives you an idea of what the use for it will be. I'm worried about getting "ghost" effects.

If you can live with a monitor that doesn't have HDMI and DisplayPorts but would like 1680x1050 pixels then check out the Dell 2209WA (22") because it is an incredibly cheap piece of kit considering it's got an LG IPS panel (no TN rubbish inside!) and a four port USB hub built in...

I have had a Samsung 22" now for a year and it is fantastic. Most reviews I see has Samsung at or near the top and a nice 22" will keep you within budget.

I have LG FLATRON W1934S 19" and it's great with games and 720p or less videos.

Basicly i know what MS and contrast ratio is. I just dont know what the minimum ms and contrast ratio is so that i wont see any ghosting while playing fast paced games. Guess i should have put that in the original post.

Yea, but look at that response time. I wouldn't say it's a "gaming monitor".

Though I would look at a Dell monitor. You should be able to pick up a decent one with a good response time in that price range.

The response time is a solid 6ms...that's not going to be an issue.

I've been gaming on a Dell UltraSharp 18" (1800FP) for the past 6 years and it's around 25ms and hasn't been an issue at all.

Dell S2309W

Tends to go on sale all the time. I got it for $150 free shipping a couple months ago. Looks great with movies, and the couple games I've played on it, not really a gamer though.

Gamers love their CRT's and claim goshting with LCD's. I have yet to experience any goshting with an LCD even at 5ms. My Hp 23in works great at 5ms and was just under 200.00. My only suggestion is to go with a good brand name LCD with the lowest ms possible and the highest contrast ratio. Read some reviews, make some comparisons. And if possible go to an outlet where you can actually see them side by side. Then make your decision.
