So I'm planning to install Windows 7 Pro later tonight (got it from Dreamspark), it comes with SP1 already slip-streamed, but we gotta remember that SP1 is about 2 years old IIRC, so my question is:

What are those essential Windows 7 Updates that have been released since then that helps with Gaming in general and Overall Performance? Like platform updates/DirectX updates, etc etc.

Just perform a clean install with Sp1, once up and running grab all updates offered by winupdate, then manually install latest DX redist.

+1. There are many assorted Performance, Security and Driver updates that will come through in several rounds after reinstall. Do all rounds after enabling Automatically deliver drivers via Windows Update (Step 3).

Tips for getting a perfect install same as for Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

If you'd like a fun project to slipstream all of the later Updates into your installer I just completed this http://www.sevenforums.com/installa...-update-7-installation-media.html#post2323236 by one of the professors here.
