gateway laptop win 7 install problem

hi
I have a gateway m 7315u with vista premium- 4 gigs of ram
intel duo core 2 ghz 64 bit. I have the win 7 disk I upgraded my desktop
with no problems. It is good for 3 pc and I put the win 7 disk
in my laptop and everything goes fine untill it gets halfway thru
" gathering files settings and programs" it stops and says it cannot
continue..I have disabled all the programs on vista and have gone to
bios and disabled usb....I have run win compabiltiy check and I get
no problems at all...I must be missing something. If you know
please share with me....THanks to all who can help

Have you visited the Gateway website and looked for Windows 7 FAQs or Windows 7 drivers for your computer?

If you are doing an ugrade, try a clean install instead. Just be sure to save all your files and programs.

yeah, i have been to the gateway site several times, i will go look
again.....I have updated my system specs, if it will help
and no I have not tried a clean install...Can I do that of an upgrade
CD....Thank you for all of your help

Why did you disable your USB ports? Re-enable them.

I didn't find any Windows 7 drivers for your laptop, but that doesn't necessarily mean you can't successfully upgrade. There may be anti-virus, third party security software, or any number of little things that might be preventing you from doing an in-place upgrade. I recommend using the Easy File Transfer program to copy all of your settings and data to a thumb drive, separate partition, DVD, etc, then do a clean installation of Windows 7, then run the EFT again and import your data. You will have to reinstall your applications.

the 1st time....I did not I could do that from an upgrade disk,....Thanks again
