my idle temperature when watching dvd's is 63 degree's i want to know should i apply thermal paste or it the temperature normal and when should i apply the thermal compound

Personally, I would not try to grease the card. Maybe it was just my ineptness, but I tried that on one of my old 8800GTS cards, and it wouldn't work at all afterward. As far as temperatures go, it is the highest temperature that it obtains under a load that matters most, and playing a movie is neither at an idle, or a high load. Instead of dismantling the card, I would consider the general cooling of the case...what is the system temp? Can you improve airflow either by cable management or adding fans?

It can be a bit of a problem to change the thermal compound on a graphics card. For the GPU itself it's straightforward, but the memory chips sometimes only use thermal pads. These are much too thick to be replaced with thermal compound, and new thermal pads are much harder to find.

Have you blown the card's heatsink out with air (perhaps the canned variety) lately? That may be all that you need.

+1 for not applying new thermal compound.

Last year I tried to cool down my GF 9600 GT OC with AS-5 .. and broke 1 (of 4) of the tiny spring nuts that held it in place. The resulting 3 left the heatsink & fan abit wonky .. so I just tried 2 in the corners. It did not get to POST bios beep .. just a black screen & all my fans were on at 100%.

What other fans do you have in your rig?
front, side, rear?
what size are they?
what direction are they flowing?
