Hi

I have problems with my Geforce gtx 460 driver.

It began some days ago, the desktop PC suddenly turned itself of. Then blue screen appeared, and in safety mode a warning message appeared:

"Please reinstall/update the display driver and program"

Almost everything has been tried; update, reinstall, and even reinstalling windows 7. Havent seen the blue screen yet after reinstalling win 7, but the reinstall/update-message still appears. And the resolution is not good. Have tried to change the resolution in win 7 but it doesnt help. The monitor driver has also been run.

In the "device management" the display driver has a yellow warning triangle

The PC has just been disassembled little and cleaned with pressure air. The graphic card was removed and the physically installed again. Began with that AFTER the error appeared

Some helpful advices would be great

The desktop:

win 7
64 bites
MSI h55m-e33 motherboard
geforce gtx 460 display driver
Samsung 2450BX monitor

Do you have the opportunity to try a different graphics card in the machine? If it's giving a graphics driver error but you've tried re-installing the driver - and I hope a different driver - then it could well be the card itself. Check the monitor cable connections as well, and if you can try a different monitor then all the better. However, the card itself is likely to be the culprit given that it is a 6 year old card and unlikely to be compatible with very much these days as well as poorly supported by modern drivers. I would certainly try it with older drivers before giving up on it, however.

Second desktop different spec but similar level.
Now I have another graphic card, ASUS geforce gtx 750 Ti like this :

http://www.asus.com/uk/Graphics-Cards/GTX750TIPH2GD5/

It works now, but another problem has appeared:

The PC hangs on "starting windows"-screen. The screen with the windows logo. It has been starting to the next screen sometimes, but now it hangs there each time the PC is turned on. While it hangs the hard drive (Western digital 1.0TB HDD) idles, not working at all and silent

I started in safe mode and disabled the display driver. Then I started normally, enabled the display driver again. Then the PC had to be restarted normally again, and that worked. But Im sure it will happend soon , that the PC hangs on the "windows starting"-screen

What could be the reason?

The PC booted ok first time after the new graphic card was installed. This happened also before the new graphic card was installed. The driver from the old card wasnt manually removed, but I cant see the old driver in the device manager. Other places on the PC the old driver has to be removed from?

Hi Kjell, I would recommend that you download for example Revo Uninstaller to completely remove all traces of the last graphics card driver, reboot and then install the new drivers for the new card, otherwise you are going to run into some problems along the way!

Cheers, Boris :)

As long as you do a custom/clean install of the drivers, it removes everything for you.

Then you just run the registry cleanup of CCleaner and it will remove anything unneeded from the registry.
