Hi All, I own and operate a computer repair shop and I am always ending up on sevenforums finding answers to the many varied problems I encounter. So thank you to all the information that you post here, and all the free help you offer people.

I want to know how you learn to do what you guys do? I would love my staff to have the skills that you guys do. Where do you learn what you know? Can we learn from some of the admins here at a cost to our business? I am always looking for better ways to repair computers rather than the format/reinstall option that everyone in our area subscribes to :(

Any information or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

The just need to tinker and get some experience. Set up a bench of old computers in your store and have them play around a bit.

Also, have them read some of the tutorials - we have a vast collection:

I don't know much about computers but I know a little. I got the knowledge from my father and also from the Control panel. I just scan through the Control Panel and find some interesting stuff, such as how to change the indexing of the Windows Start search.

I also just look at answers at some old topics and yeah.

I've learned most of what I know from screwing up my machines and then trying to figure out what I've done and fixing it. Everything else I've learned from here,Seven forums. As mentioned above we have many tutorials here covering just about every aspect of this wonderful O.S. and the machines it runs on. Even if you don't need a certain tutorial at a certain time they are great to just peruse at leisure.

Welcome to the forums by the way, and thank you for the compliments of our site.:D

Hi James,

How we learn? I can only speak for myself, but after many years in the coporate trenches and the same many years tinkering aorund with my own machines (beaking lots of stuff along the way) and finding the good, the bad, and the ugly way to fix things, tweak things, hack the regisitry - plus some best practices (have a backup).

Have them play around a LOT!
No one person has all the answers, make it a team effort. One knows security, one knows recovery, one knows hardware. Ask them to become members here (on Vista and Eight forums too) and they can provide solutions as well as ask questions .

As far as a "sevenforums night school" - that's an interesting proposition. Maybe a sevenforums book.

The founding members would have to make that call - to keep this forum free, maybe a new website - dunno, not my domain.

Bill

Many of us have come up with Win7 since beta and watched many of it's important fixes, workarounds and Best Practices developed here where there has always been a passionate love for the OS. I learn something new here every day.

When we went to other forums we found less enthusiasm, less laser focus, less passion, and less features that make working here like driving a sports car compared to other forums providing a kiddie car by comparison.

Largely as a result there is also a much bigger audience, especially for the specialties where we shine the most. In many of these we have the very top experts in the field, and all except for the Administators are volunteers.

Surprise there is a bunch of information in Windows 7 itself.
