Generic Taskbar Icon!

I have several dozen programs installed on my Win 7 Home Premium 64-bit PC. One program in particular does not display it's icon on the task bar when opened, but rather displays a generic "blank page" icon. It's icon will be displayed if I create a shortcut for the program on the desktop, just not the task bar. I have tried re-building the icon cache, to no avail. Does anyone know how to fix this? It's driving me nuts.

I have run into that issue frequently using 7Stacks Taskbar launcher utility. The only "solution" I've found is to use a custom icon. It happens frequently enough that I have a folder for these icons under Documents. I just search for a free icon suitable for the program. If you want the exact icon from the program itself you can use an icon extraction tool to extract the icon from the exe file. Save it as .ico. Then use it as "custom icon."

Inside the shortcut there should be an Advanced Button and inside that a button for Custom Icon or Change Icon.

This "blank paper icon" bug has plagued Windows as far back as 3.x(maybe longer. But I started using Windows with version 3.0.)

That's part of the problem--the <Change Icon> button is grayed out and thus does not work...
