Why does Windows tell me my OS isn't genuine when I have a legit product key, and downloaded (after purchasing) the OS off of the MS website? Then I go to the Control Panel and I have the Genuine Icon?

Where or when is it telling you your not genuine? A screen shoot might help.

Does the 'not genuine' message appear in the bottom-right corner of the screen?

I found that if I activated Window's online-- I used to run into that message periodically. I ASSUME when the computer does it's background activation check and finds the computer to be offline, the computer ends up with that message on screen.

What worked for me was modifying the registry value "ActivationInterval" found in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\Activation" to "900000000" (It was at roughly 9000 beforehand.)

Or you could just deactivate Window's then use the phone activation method instead.
