Today’s post is just a quick status update to keep everyone in the loop on the progress Office 2010 is making, as well as to provide finalized details for our Office 2010 Technology Guarantee.

Starting today, consumers who purchase and activate Office 2007 will be able to download Office 2010 at no additional cost when it becomes available in June 2010.

All you need to be eligible for this program – Office 2010 Technology Guarantee – is the following:

  • Purchase Office 2007, or a new PC with Office 2007, and activate it between March 5, 2010 and September 30, 2010.
  • Have, or create a Windows Live ID.
  • Redeem your Tech Guarantee before October 31, 2010 by visiting www.office.com/techg.

The Office 2010 Technology Guarantee will be fulfilled online, via download, at no additional cost.

For more information about the Office 2010 Technology Guarantee, and to sign up for an e-mail reminder when Office 2010 is available, visit www.office.com/techg.

In addition to the Office 2010 Technology Guarantee, were excited to confirm that Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010 and Project 2010 are on schedule and will release to manufacturing (RTM) next month.

For businesses, we will launch the 2010 set of products, including Office 2010, SharePoint 2010, Visio 2010, and Project 2010 worldwide on May 12. To find out more about the Worldwide Business Launch, visit http://sharepoint.microsoft.com/businessproductivity/proof/pages/2010-launch-events.aspx.

For consumers, Office 2010 will be available online and on retail shelves this June. Until then, you can get the Office 2010 beta at www.office.com/beta.

Let us know in the comments if you have any questions or topics you’d like to see us discuss here in the future to help you prepare and leverage Office 2010.

It would be nice if those who have tried Office 2010 could provide an experience report. I have Office 2007 and did not want to mess it up with the 2010 distro. One useful new feature I saw was the "save as video" in Power Point. But I am sure there are other interesting new features. Question is whether they are worth dishing out another $150 (for home and student).

My school is part of the MSDN alliance so I hope it will be up on there once it is released. I like using one note mostly though. Office 2010 for word more simple but while its more simple to find stuff, people who used 07 (my friend couldn't find how to make columns) are confused or lack common sense to see where things are. I can see if your using Office for the first time it would feel a bit overwhelming but would be easier to find things. For people coming off 03 and 07 you maybe a hit or miss, since it uses ribbons/tabs for everything. I found it easier using tabs for all my things although. I wish it had tabs for my documents instead of making multiples on the task-bar ( on W7 idk about vista or xp ) since i am sort of a minimalist.

Pro
1. I like it being able to use black, gray or white theme layout
2. More sleek and agile at // least for me
3. Ribbon/Tab infer-face with neatly labeled buttons easier to see/find
4. PPT more simple to use but nicer when looking for some options.

Con- FOR ME
1. Pressing File button hides your document / ppt/ etc and you may forgot what you wanted to do at all. Con for me but more so because my forgetfulness
2. RSS feed function for outlook does not work how Windows Live Mail does, but Should I really compare those?
3. RSS feed function, or email function I cant customize it to How I like I suppose.

I like One note a lot though once again.

*Have yet to utilize everything for any maxim potential.

So if I buy the student version of Office 2007 and activate it would I be able to apply for this offer.

Just that the only reason that I'm using the 2010 beta is that I didn't want to buy Office 2007 only for 2010 to be released later in the year.

Sounds like a very good deal though.

That's what it looks like. Similar to when you bought Vista after July 09, you got a free upgrade for Windows7. They just want to get ahead of the curve.
The only downside is that you have to do the learning process twice as I understand that there are quite some differences between the 2007 and 2010 editions.

In the T&Cs:

I purchased Office 2007 through the Student Select program; am I eligible for the Tech Guarantee?

No - Office 2007 product that is purchased through the Student Select program is not eligible for the Tech Guarantee.

:(

Ah well, the 2010 edition will probably be around £40 when it's out on the student program anyway. Hopefully...

This is slightly off topic, but does anyone know what is different in 2010beta to the 2010 rtm?

I've used 2010 for the past few months and plan on buying it, but is seems slow and buggy.

You could try returning it if you got it at the store and say you don't agree with Microsoft terms of agreements, lol. Might be a hassle but it works. Just don't scream at the people. Oh, well if you haven't used the pin doh:drool:
Still try though. I usually run my programs that have 30 days before I activate till the last day or so to see If I am satisfied.

Really? Runs absolutely fabulous on my computer. Office 2007 is a pure mess in my opinion and Office 2010 is what it should have been if it wasn't rushed also like vista is to windows 7. I really love the theme changing of colors and onenote.

Oh it worked but never setup properly. Office 2010 takes care of those issues. Its only after using beta that it feels more of a mess and I can see minor details fixed. To me it felt like it could have been better when I had office 07 and beta for office 2010 wasn't even out. Hence in my opinion and nothing really solid to back it up.
