Get Original Drive Icon back

Hi all,

I used the search function and found a lot about changing icons of folders. I could not find anything about how to get back the original icons.
For some reason one external drive "lost" it's icon and you can see a placeholder only.
I mean it is not the end of the world..... but almost
Any ideas?

You might try rebuilding the icon cache. C:\Users\username\AppData\Local. Delete IconCache.db. Reboot. This will cause the icon cache to be rebuilt.

Thanks a lot. Unfortunately this did not do the trick.
I read that desktop.ini on the external drive could cause an issue.
Any more ideas.

Hello Hanshanshans,

You might be able to manually change the drive icon back to the default one using the tutorial below. Be sure to check for a "desktop.ini" file as described in the yellow TIP box in the tutorial first though.

GREAT. Thanks a lot. The desktop.ini was the problem. No I am back to normal.
