Getting Disk Read Error message when powered on

When i switch on Lap, it shows "Disk Read Error occured.Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to restart."
I restarted but again it shows the same.
Since few days dint shut down the lap properly.Is that the reason for getting this?How to proceed?Kindly suggest!

You will need a Windows Installation Disk or System Repair Disk to do this.

Boot to the Disk, choose your language > Next > and then choose "Repair My Computer" > select the "Use REcovery Tools..." option > Next > Click on the "Command Prompt" option.

Then type: " chkdsk C: /r " and the ENTER

Let that run and see if it repairs the errors.

Disk read error message typically means the hard drive is failing.
