Getting ready for installing Windows 7 - Drivermax use?

Hi

This is a terrific forum.

I have a question & hope it's not a duplicate... I plan to install Windows 7 64 bit when I get my copy in Oct. I will do a clean install on a virgin hard drive (WD Scorpio) and have seen a number of posts advising to get drivers to hand before starting the install.

My question is ... can a tool such as Drivermax be used now (ie on my current (Win XP Pro 32 bit) set up) to download the drivers I will require when I am on my Win 7 64 bit platform? ie can I tell (eg) Drivermax to not find Win XP 32 bit drivers but to find Win 7 64 bit drivers, even though Drivermax will no doubt detect that the request is coming from a Win XP 32 bit system, if you see what I mean... - does the program default to the OS it detects, or can you override that?

Hi piattj and welcome to SevenForums!

Good news and bad news... First the Bad news ... Most programs like DriverAgent get the OS version installed, before it does the search, so you wont be able to specify your OS... The Good news is that you probably wont need to. While there are more issues with 64bit vs 32bit driver availability, the gap is shrinking fast. Windows 7 has more native drivers than ever before, so unless you have something really exotic, you should be good to go right out of the box.
